Sharing Shadymont, My Mountain Cottage

When I bought the hall tree, I said I'd never change the color.  Wrong!!  But I've waited at least a couple of years, so that is amazing for me!! Here is the before with the original color, a smoky bluish gray: Now, you see my favorite color when you walk in the door. I achieved this look by rubbing vaseline on the areas that were already distressed, and that kept the new paint from adhering to those places.  The color is actually a fifty cents small bottle of Acrylic craft paint, mixed with Waverly white chalk paint.   At first, I had too much water in the mixture of the blue, white chalk paint, plaster of paris and water, and the color barely showed up.  It looked like watered down white.  Not what I wanted.  So I poured the mixture out, and dried my bowl I was painting from and used the technique like I did on the green chest in my bedroom.  Just dabbing in white and the blue, and just using light strokes going all directions...

I'm still receiving therapy by keeping my hands busy, plus today I ran quite a few errands.  It's been a crying day for me today.  Just so much to worry about.  It seems like sometimes everything is just messed up, and there's nothing we can do to fix any of it.   Night before last, I painted the bar stools.  I've had them since 2000, and they were nice, but I was just in the mood to paint them!!  The form of the stools had a textured bronze color, the seats were beige with the fleur de lis design, and the wood across the back was brown.  Well, needless to say, they got their own coat of chalk paint in white, the seats covered in blue and white, and the boards across the back are blue.  I have the fabric to make matching placemats and napkins, but today was not the day to try to sew, for me.  I'm just too nervous.  In fact, I didn't do anything creative today except switch out the curtains in the powder room that I only made and p...

I'm keeping my hands busy right now to keep my mind off the adversities that life throws at us from time to time.  Seems like last July when I was at death's door set off a string of events that I could write a book about.  It's been one thing right after another for the year, and even prior to that.  I'm ready for this little black cloud, to clear out.  But through it all I've felt the hand of God close by, saying come to me and rest.   I sincerely hope things lighten up really soon.  But for those of you who believe and pray, I have a very special request I'd like for you to pray about.  God knows what it is and I'm not at liberty to say, but pray for the two young men that Kathy requested.  He'll know what you mean. `````~~~~~~~~~~~~~````````~~~~~~~~~````````~~~~~~``````~` Now, I'm still painting and using up some partial bottles/cans of paints. I've had an old dresser in the basement for years just holding junk.  Since I'm now divorced and changed my room to a girlie room, I decided I needed that dresser made over and brought upstairs.  It was bought in 1976 when we built our first home, and was a maple color.  I decided that color had to go and looked in my leftover paint cans to find a color in the turquoise family.  There was part of a can left with the 'Copper Patina' color that we painted the walls in the library.  I mixed in some Plaster of Paris and water to make a chalk paint to use.  My daughter came that afternoon and helped me get it in the house.  I had made a dash into Good Will and picked up some brass pieces that I thought would look good on it.  The dresser is to the right in the photo. I also  moved the chair and ottoman over to that side of the room. Next is a photo from the front. I added just a touch of white and spray painted the handles glossy black...

Not a lot going on at Shadymont over the weekend.  I went to GW on my own and to a large thrift store.  I found a couple things that are being used in my bedroom.  I'm looking for a small settee or chaise lounge for the bedroom as well.  I want to make it my haven.  I have chairs in there, but really do want a chaise, or settee.  I'd rather have a settee, but my sister in law found a chaise.  I'm going to see if it's still availabale at $50.  If so, I might get it.  I need to figure out how to rearrange my room if I get it.  I just want the room to feel cozy and cohesive. The two items I found at the thrift shop look really good in my room.  One is a lovely picture ($2.00), and one is a gorgeouse flower arrangement ($ 3.00). The picture was in the lobby of the thrift store and the lady at the register wasn't sure it was for sale, but she sold it to me anyway for $2. My metal bed wearing different bedding. ...

After a much needed rest, I'm back with a new blog name and a few slight changes, like the template, and the content will vary and not always be home decor, though that is my niche, and I will continue to have it frequently.  But I want to use my blog to also give those who may read it a little encouragement into the Goodness of God. Some of the fog from my depression is lifting now and I'm starting to feel better.  I've had a really hard time, personally, for the last seven months, and the divorce still isn't final.  I think it is nearing being final now though, and I hope I will continue to get clarity from this fog. I have a story to tell regarding other matters, but I still am not able to talk  about it quite yet.  But when I say I've been through the fire, or maybe the pits of hell, just believe me.  I now understand the meaning of Never say "Never"!  Things can happen to us when we are vulernable that we think would never  happen.  ...
