Sharing Shadymont, My Mountain Cottage

Yesterday I awoke in the mood to 'tweak' my Christmas decor.  You see, I had declared myself "through"!!  When I said that, my husband laughed and said he knew that wasn't true, that I would keep decorating.  As is often the case, he was right.  I didn't put more decor out (not much, anyway), but started re-doing what I had already done.  I'm happy to report that it does look better. I'll show you some of my changes. I had originally set up a nativity set on the entry table, with my shutters, and burlap as the barn roof. It was o.k., but it didn't look like I wanted. So, I switched it out, and did this: I flipped the shutters around to the white side, moved my favorite candlestick to it, added a red candle, white ribbon, and ornament that reads "Welcome Friends", and added trees, as well as the Christmas table cloth. Wow! I didn't realize how many projects I did in 2012.  Way too many to show them all, so I will just share the ones I like best!   This olden plant stand was dark brown wood, full of scratches and water marks.  Here it is with a coat of home made chalk paint, and a little distressing.  Now it's in the guest bath holding the necessities. I painted the bottom of my Mother's old Hoosier cabinet.  I don't have the top part of the cabinet, but I have really enjoyed using this!  It's in my mudroom. I added a frenchy label to this old box I found at a consignment shop, and filled it with blue Ball jars and other goodies. I painted the 8-track tape box below, and added mod podged frenchy labels to it. I painted the larger stool white and added a fleur de lis stencil to it. On Saturday, I went to a couple of yard sales and to a favorite antique/consignment shop.   Look what I bought for fifty cents each.  The tower corner shelf of course was a varnished dark pecan color.  I used my last smidgen of ASCP to give it a white coat, then sanded it in spots.  I left the blackboard as it was.  $1.00 bought me both these items, neither of which I needed.  (lol)  The shelves are heart shaped, so it will come in handy for valentine's decor. The shelf unit can be used on its side as well.  I actually like it better on its side.  I placed it on the back of the toilet in the master, and it makes a cute holder for extra tissue rolls.  It could also be used to hold books.   It's a versatile piece that I will use a lot.
