Sharing Shadymont, My Mountain Cottage

Featuring my sunroom is always a popular post.  I get so much light in here, and it has such pleasant views of the ridges and valleys across the way. I love the way the garland looks around the faux plant above. I kept the table very simple. I found this metal photo holder at the Hen's Nest for $5.99.  I'm using it in the sun room, but it would be great above my vanity to hold my jewelry,so expect a change soon. The photo below shows the rolling hills outside the window. Fall sign and pumpkins dress up the book case. I nabbed this rug at GW for $8. It had a couple of spots that easily came out. Our home is practically surrounded with porches.....practically, and we enjoy everyone. I want to show you the latest look of the screened porch, not a whole lot of difference, but a favorite location around here. I enjoy seeing the laundry room makeovers in blogland. However, I am not a great painter, so I was trying to think of how I could give the room a little facelift.  My cabinets in there are plentiful, but after 17 years, they were seeing some wear. Mostly, areas where damp clothing sitting near the cabinets, both on the upper cabinets and the lower had places where the stain had all but disappeared.  I considered painting them, even though that is not my strong suit, considered using Java Gel Stain on them.  Still hesitant about my skills. I remembered that I had a can of Restore It Furniture rehab liquid that might help cover up some of the wear.  Even though the cabinets are honey colored, and the Restore It I had is walnut, I used it anyway.  Well, this stuff is wonderful.  It covered all the blemishes, gave a very clean look to the cabinets and didn't darken them over one shade.  They look like new!  I plan to get new hardware for this room. ...

Help!!! It's contagious and there's no cure for it!  Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Makeover Fever!  I've caught it!  Symptoms: paint everything in sight, sand it, wax it, and show it off!  Yep, it's a new condition with no cure.  I bought this mirror several years ago at a consignment shop.  I don't remember the price, but if you know me, you know it was a bargain!  If it's not, it doesn't come home with me!  It hung in the guest room for some time, then I moved it to the guest bath where it hung until Sunday.  Excuse the blurry picture, but you can see the carving at the top.  Here it is, ready to be painted. I wiped off the dust and started painting with ASCP Olde White.   I put the paint on fairly thick with a sponge applicator, pushing down to get it into the carving.  After allowing about an hour for it to dry, I sanded the entire frame, down to the black paint along the edges.  Then I lightly waxed it with dark wa...
