Sharing Shadymont, My Mountain Cottage

I had a light bulb moment today, and decided to move my late mother-in-law's jelly cupboard from the sun room to the breakfast area.  I don't know why I never thought of that before, but the spot where I moved it is the perfect place, and just the right amount of space for it. Here it is in the sun room. And here it is in the breakfast area.   The family room is to the left, and the sunroom to the right. All decked out for Christmas.... Here is the way I rearranged the sun room.  I wanted to place the plants in front of the windows, so everything got a new spot. I took down the curtains except for 2 panels.  That way the room will get full sun all morning.  I like having the rocker in the corner where the cupboard previously was.  I moved the bifold door to that corner for a punch of color. We noticed the other day, that the ferns on the front porch had gotten so heavy, they were damaging the vinyl soffit so we took them down and placed them on the front porch table, and two on the screened porch. We have had great luck with the plants this year.   The floral "picture" is a painting on a cabinet door that my daughter bought locally.  The addition of two of the ferns really filled in the space. We had a philodendron that had gotten so big, we could no longer carry it to and from the basement to winterize it, so I took part of it and repotted it, and let the older part of the plant go.  It had not fared well over the winter, and had gotten root bound.  I made two pots, but only one of them survived. I haven't done a lot of decorating for the 4th, but I did get a wreath made for the front door. I used a wreath form, mesh ribbon, and burlap ribbon pieces to make this.  I probably have $8.00 worth of supplies in it, but I already had all of it, so nothing new was purchased. Next, I filled this small tote with red, white, and blue flowers that I already had, and placed it on the table between the rockers on the porch. I found this sign a couple of years ago at consignment, I think.  I placed small flags in the pots next to the concrete bench near the front door. Not easy to see, but the flag hangs in the side yard on the electrical pole.  Our ferns have looked so good this summer.  I usually don't have good luck with them.  The secret for us has been to water late EVERY evening.  They have thrived!! Every year, we bring this small ladder to the screened porch to hold my plants/flowers.  It just doesn't seem right without it.  I went to the store this afternoon to buy plants for the pots, and stopped by Dollar General and picked up a few pretties for the porch too. I found this sweet bird house.  I loved its unusual shape, and the bright colors.  Of course I had to have this pretty bird too. The bird and bird house are perched on top of the ladder.  Then I have two post with spider plants left from a year ago.  Today, I bought Ivy, Creeping Jenny, petunias, and the large purple plant (can't think of the name).  I only purchased purple and green items.

I've finally gotten the screened porch ready for the warm seasons.  Nothing new, even the same plants.  Just a few changes.  The Philodendron shed its largest leaves over the winter, and is putting on new growth.  It gets huge!  The plant corner where I'm using the same ladder as last year.  I did add the blue stool.  This is its third color.  I bought it white/gray washed, painted it pink and gray, now it is aqua.That's the fun of small pieces like this.  It's a quick project to repaint it for a new look.  My husband had this little red and white stool.  The chippiness is just too perfect to cover with paint!  The bird house works nicely with my tiny stool, stenciled with Home Sweet Home.  I added an angel made from sea shells to the spider plant.  More buds on the cactus.  My succulents made it through the winter just fine in the basement.
