Sharing Shadymont, My Mountain Cottage

I went to a consignment shop on Sunday to look at some twin size comforters they were holding for me.  I wanted them for the lake house.  But they were missing dust ruffles, so I decided against them.  I went ahead and looked around while I was there, and found two really nice picture frames.  My favorite is this one that has a Vintage/Victorian look.   As soon as I saw this, I knew I would put the picture of my mom and her sister when they were children, in it.  Since the time I took this shot, I've placed a piece of paper with a beige background and lettering behind the photo to downplay the white around the picture.   L to R:  Lottie Odessa Marshall, Mary Catherine Marshall (my Mom)   Ages 9 and 5 Look at those little boots, and the large hairbow!  So pretty! Hubby and I have worked so hard the last few days, cleaning out the basement, and trying to clean the floors.  When the home was built in 2000, for some reason a lot of red mud was ground into the concrete floors.  Then for a number of years, I just didn't worry too much about it because it's only used for storage of mowers, garden tools, and the usual "junk" that gets stored there... not the least of which is all my decorating items packed and stacked in bins.  We have been thinking about painting the floors, and knew we would have to clean them.  If they come clean enough though, we may not paint them.  Talk about hard work!  We were reminded that there are muscles we had forgotten about, and we move much slower now than a few years ago. Anyway, I decided a trip to a favorite consignment store would be a reward for all the hard work. It turned out to be a good time to shop.  They had so many unique things, but I was good and only bought these three...

I went to a favorite consignment shop last week, and found the cutest fall arrangement for $8.00. The leaves and berry stems were all bent up, and it needed to be "fluffed" a little, but I think it's really cute. I dusted it as best I could, and straightened the leaves and berries.  Pheasant feathers are so pretty.  I think this is the perfect spot for it.   I like the leather tag hanging from the vase. I love finding these items at a thrifty price.   The berries blend in nicely with the flowers in the picture hanging above the table, and the green lantern, brings out the greens in the picture so well.  Even though I like the arrangement as it is, I decided it needed a little more color.  I removed a few stems from my P&G Basket arrangement below, and added them to this arrangement. Here is how the thrifted arrangement looks now. Much better! I think this is a great improvement, and it cost NOTHING!...

Thanks to everyone who visited and commented on Favorite Vignettes Part I.  As promised, here is Part II. This arrangement was $1.00 at an indoor yard sale near our S. GA home.  I like it paired with the lamp.  This is an outdoor vignette I created on the screened porch at the lake home.  The little bench, and fairy were from the same sale as the arrangement in the first photo. I purchased the container above, and the runner at a consignment store, and simply placed a floral arrangement I already had in the container.  This vignette sits in the hutch at the lake home.  I painted the wire chicken white, and also some of the wooden eggs. Here is an Easter vignette on the table in the foyer. As you can see, this vignette was created for Pink Saturday back in 2010. Hope you have enjoyed some of my favorite vignettes! The other day while doing my daily "move things around" :), I happened to sit this urn with the faux greenery in the seat of this consignment chair. When I started to pick it up to move to another area, I thought....hmmmm, I think I like it sitting in this chair.   After all, the urn is white, the chair seat and back are white, and the brown wood on the chair blends well with the drapes in the dining room., So, I just left it there. And, I think it is going to stay here.  I like it that well.  So I just photographed it, edited/enhanced the photos in Picasa, and now I'm sharing them with you! I have been wanting to go back to the Hen's Nest Consignment Store about 30 miles away.  So finally today, I decided to drive there.  I walked through it a couple of times but didn't buy anything.  They had a couple of things I would love to have, but y'all know how cheap I am, so I talked myself right out of them.  :(  As I was sitting at a traffic light to turn left to start back home, I was looking at the shops across the way, when what to my wandering eyes should appear, but a HUGE Consignment Shop that I had not heard about!  Now what's up with that!  Anyway, I just drove straight over there and had myself a look-see.  Oh my..... lots of clothing, but also lots of home decor items.  Be still my heart!! I just took my time and browsed through.  Now, some of the items were priced like new, but some had decent prices.  So a couple of smalls did come home with me.  Seven dollars and forty-seven cents worth to be exact.  W...

I've had this corner cupboard since 1977.  That was when my late husband and I built our first home.   At the time I worked at a local hardware and furniture store, and was able to purchase it for $125.00.  It's still in perfect condition, and I'll keep it in its original finish. It has no scratches or anything on it.  I have no idea what one like it would cost today, but much more than that I'm sure.   Right now, I have crystal pieces, a set of china, and various accessories displayed in it.  Oh no, I cut off the rooster's head in this photo.  :(   Inside I did a couple of really small projects this past weekend.  When I say small, believe me.   I saw napkins folded into roses on someone's website, and gave it a try.   They actually came out pretty good, and were very simple to do.
