Found: A New Consignment Store

I have been wanting to go back to the Hen's Nest Consignment Store about 30 miles away.  So finally today, I decided to drive there.  I walked through it a couple of times but didn't buy anything.  They had a couple of things I would love to have, but y'all know how cheap I am, so I talked myself right out of them.  :(  As I was sitting at a traffic light to turn left to start back home, I was looking at the shops across the way, when what to my wandering eyes should appear, but a HUGE Consignment Shop that I had not heard about!  Now what's up with that!  Anyway, I just drove straight over there and had myself a look-see.  Oh my..... lots of clothing, but also lots of home decor items.  Be still my heart!! I just took my time and browsed through.  Now, some of the items were priced like new, but some had decent prices.  So a couple of smalls did come home with me.  Seven dollars and forty-seven cents worth to be exact.  Wanna see what I bought??

This hat box (still had the original store tag on it).  I thought it would look good in my sun room on the Wilendur tablecloth that I got such a great deal on.

I like the way it looks with the green cloth.
Price $3.99

The only other item I purchased is this hook, which I also hung in the sun room.

I love the colors, and the robin is so pretty.
$2.99

I placed it with this wall grouping.  I have a garden/bird theme going on in here.  So these two items worked out well.

I also visited an antique shop which was chock full of goodies, but extremely high prices.  I could have stayed in there for a while, but they had not turned the air on, not even ceiling fans so it was HOT and STUFFY!   I understand wanting to save on the electricity, but OMG! I'm just not going to do a lot of shopping when my hair is getting wet from the heat.  Just sayin'!!

Come party with me at:
Frugal Treasures Tuesday

You never know what you'll find at these great parties!!

  2. Both of your thrifty items are so pretty and what great prices!! I just love it when I find a new consignment store or flea market. I totally agree with you, who wants to shop when they are so uncomfortable? I'm sure those stores lose lots of sales by doing that as well.

    Have a wonderful evening!

  7. Great finds! I probably would have stopped traffic if I discovered a new shop. Too bad about the weather in the antique shop. I've been in so many that are so dark, no heat, no air, just to save a few dollars. They'd make more if they kept their customers comfortable. Thanks so much for sharing.

  10. Good Morning! I love the hat box with that beautiful tablecloth. Are the flower on the hat box lilacs or hydrangeas? Your sunroom looks so inviting! Thanks so much for joining the party at Frugal Treasures. : )

    1. The box has the word hydrangeas on it, but they really do look like lilacs.

Thrifty Bookcase Makeover

About a year ago, I was working on a photo gallery area at the lake home. There is an area about 7x7 between the living room, and the hall bath. I bought a really inexpensive ($20.00) bookcase to use there to hold family photos. I hurriedly placed photos on it, and didn't think much about it.   The last time we were at the lake, I was sitting there looking at how badly it looked, wondering what I could do to spruce it up a little.  It had all colors/types of picture frames -red, pink floral, wood, brass, you name it!   I remembered seeing adhesive shelf liner at the Dollar General the day before.  So I made a quick trip back there, and bought one 9 ft. roll for less than $3.00.  I know this is not an original idea and has been done by lots of people, but I wanted to show you anyway.   First, I emptied out all the photos, pulled out the shelves, measured, and cut the paper to fit inside the bookcase.  I also took all the photos out of the frames and w...

Stenciled Burlap Pillow

I just have to share my no sew pillow project.  I had some burlap fabric in my fabric stash, and decided I would use it to cover a pillow.  First, I found an old pillow I no longer use.  I spread the burlap out on the floor and laid my pillow on it so I could cut the fabric big enough to cover it.  I was so intent on the project, I didn't make any pictures of the process. Once the burlap was cut, I folded in the sides about an inch, and glued it down with Tacky Glue, pressing it down several times with my fingers.  I did this all the way around the fabric, and laid it aside to dry over night.  The Tacky Glue dries clear. My next step was to determine how I could lap the fabric over the cushion in an envelope fashion.  I had tried to get my computer to print out a graphic that would show up on the burlap, but printer problems interfered with that plan, so I found the center, and stenciled it with the tree stencil I bought at Michael's. ...

The Great White Pumpkin

Ever since I saw the pumpkins made from clothes dryer venting hose, I have wanted to make one.  It just so happened that we had some leftover vent hose in the basement, and while I was down there yesterday, I cut off a piece, taped the ends together with masking tape, and spray painted it white.  I let it dry over night.  This morning I brought it up and finished it.  This project is another freebie, because I had everything needed to complete it. I wrapped a piece of cardboard tube from wrapping paper with jute string for the stem.  Then all I had to do was stick the little sprig of orange and green in beside the stem, tie a piece of rust raffia on it, and it was done! This is a simple project, and only takes a few minutes. Once complete, I changed the coffee table vignette to include it. I placed everything in a consignment store tray I bought several years ago.  I was already using the acorns and flower arrangement on the coffee table. ...
