Sharing Shadymont, My Mountain Cottage

I have been busy crafting fabric hearts to use in my Valentine's decor.  They are really easy to make.  I learned to make these last year by following a tutorial by Jane at Cottage at the Crossroads. I purchased some of the $.97 squares of fabric that are already cut and packaged for quilts.  They are not fat quarters, but are larger squares.  I can get 4 large hearts and three or four small ones from one square.  So for about $2.00, I have all these hearts.  Below a basket is filled with fabric hearts. In a dough bowl. On my twig arrangement. These are so much fun to make, and can be done while watching t.v.  Mine are not embellished like those Jane makes, but they work fine. We are spending a few days in warmer weather, cold, but warmer than NE Georgia.  Of course this calls for tweaking the decor while I'm here.  We had not been here since early October, so the Fall decor was still out.  Once that was all put away, I added a little Winter, and a little Valentine's. I was looking through some papers and found this old card that my MIL had. I stuck it in a frame I already had and created this winter/valentine's vignette in an old red tool box. I made these fabric hearts last year.  I love this old tool box.  You will notice the price tag stuck in the lid of it.  I don't have the heart to pull it off.  This belonged to my husband's late Uncle. Since Valentine's Day is almost here, I thought I would show you photos from some of my Valentine's posts from this year.  Hope you enjoy a recap! I made these hearts from fabric scraps I already had and used them to decorate at the lake house. Here, Dollar Tree flowers were added to an old hobnail vase. I made a runner and cushion covers from this cute fabric. This is the table in the sunroom, all dressed up for Valentine's.  I already had all these items. We came to the lake house yesterday, so I brought a few frugal items with me to decorate for Valentines.  Nothing elaborate at all.  I saw this idea at Cottage at the Crossroads . Jane had made some of the prettiest fabric hearts for her home.  She gave excellent instructions, so I decided to give it a try.  I already had all the fabric scraps, so by following Jane's directions, I came up with these for decorations at the lake. These set atop the TV armoire.  I spent no money at all for this project. I think they add just the right amount of color.  I brought some flowers from Dollar Tree with me from our other home, and added them to this old hobnail vase.  The picture here was around $6.00 some time ago at the Dollar General.  The scarf on the armoire is part of a pillow case left from the fabric heart project.  I just trimmed the edge with pinking shears to even it up.
