Sharing Shadymont, My Mountain Cottage

I have placed some turquoise accents in the guest room, so now it goes with the rest of the house. Some of the easiest ways to add a favorite color to a room, is with pillows, throws, candles, pictures, etc. I've made a few changes in the guest room again. I placed the white quilt on this bed a few weeks ago, and since I decided to add some turquoise accessories, I switched out the curtains with some I already had.  I hung curtains that are sheer, but have aqua and green and taupe print on them, along with a turquoise throw, and a green pillow. The little dress is the one I was wearing when our house burned.  I was 2 years old, and my Mother had made the dress from a flour or feed sack.  She saved it for years and I'll always keep it. I recently bought these sherbet glasses at Good Will, 5 for $1.35 each with discount, total $6.75.  I found them online for sale from $44.00 to $85.00 for 5!  So a pretty good deal, I think. They are the cloverleaf design with pattern on the foot. Hazel Atlas glassware, c. 1930-1936. Since I'm sharing these, I will share some of my other depression glass collection. This creamer belonged to my grandmother, and I'm so happy to have it. Federal Georgian Lovebirds Green Depression Glass Creamer Pitcher is a vaseline glass piece with the Georgian or "Lovebirds" pattern that was manufactured from 1931 until 1936. The pattern name is Georgian, also known as Lovebirds. One side of the creamer depicts a swag with the lovebirds and the other side is decorated with a flower basket. All of these pieces belonged to my Mother in law.  I believe the dishes trimmed in gold may have been part of a party set, and they are a close match to McKee Hickman dish...

I was thinking that I haven't done a table scape in a long time. I had this table cloth on for quite some time, and the huge tool box as a center piece, filled with blue mason jars.  It was time for a change.  I kept the table cloth with it's pineapple design.  It's reversible, but I love it on the lighter side.  Next I layered a fabric remnant I got in a bag of fabric from GW, and used it as a short runner.  So far the colors are gold and green, two colors that are prominent in the room. For a centerpiece, I placed faux succulents and grass into a chicken wire basket from consignment. I like the lightness of the centerpiece. I chose a gold charger, green dinner plate, and a white salad plate as the dish ware. All from different sets, but the colors I wanted to use. Every year, we bring this small ladder to the screened porch to hold my plants/flowers.  It just doesn't seem right without it.  I went to the store this afternoon to buy plants for the pots, and stopped by Dollar General and picked up a few pretties for the porch too. I found this sweet bird house.  I loved its unusual shape, and the bright colors.  Of course I had to have this pretty bird too. The bird and bird house are perched on top of the ladder.  Then I have two post with spider plants left from a year ago.  Today, I bought Ivy, Creeping Jenny, petunias, and the large purple plant (can't think of the name).  I only purchased purple and green items.

I've had this trug (tool box), or whatever you want to call it, for a year or so, and it has seen some changes from the way it looked when I first bought it at a small shop for $20.00.  I fell in love with the trug, loved the chippiness, the color....not so much.  I let it keep it's original color for a few days though.  After a few days, it got a coat of white, and some dark wax, and the inside partitions got a light blue.  I liked it better in white. It was about that time that I learned how to transfer graphics to wood using mod podge, so that was the next change.  I added a rooster to both sides of the trug.   Yesterday was the day to update it.  I had just a wee bit of ASCP in blue left in a sample jar.  So I added just a little water to thin it some, and brushed it on to the trug. We had noticed this "jar" sitting near a trash pile, and my husband decided to see what it was.  It was full of dirt, and covered in grime.  After soaking it a while, it looked much better. The shape and color is very nice. At first I thought it might be a globe for a lamp or some type of candle holder. The bottom has an opening, and no markings. Do you know what it might be? This is how I'm using it. It's made of thick bubbled glass. Any guesses?? Know what this was in its former life?   It makes a wonderful vase for faux flowers! It's a vintage fly /wasp trap!!   Once yucky, now pretty!!!
