Sharing Shadymont, My Mountain Cottage

Our master bedroom has looked the same for a long time.  We have lots of trouble finding bedding to look right on this bed, because it is high, plus it has huge mattress and box springs.  I had looked for hours online for bedding big enough for it. Finally, I measured it, and instead of going to various stores carrying bedding, I typed the measurements into the search bar, 118 x 110 bedding.  Then several links came up that carry what is called super-sized king bedding, including Amazon through ECity Direct, price $49.99.  I was a little suspicious, but the reviews for the bedding were very good, so I decided to order it and see.  (Chezmoi Kingston Collection, spread, 2 king size shams ) So a really great bargain.  When I opened it, I was sure I had done the right thing.  The spread is the same on both sides, and is the perfect weight. One thing we home décor bloggers have in common is our love of creating vignettes. Today, I am sharing several in our living area where I've mainly used pink, blue, and white. First, I've once again, changed up the hall tree.  I wanted something lighter and simpler. I replaced the lamp (again), and changed the flowers to these mini roses in a cupid planter, and placed one ceramic rose inside this dish.

I've had this trug (tool box), or whatever you want to call it, for a year or so, and it has seen some changes from the way it looked when I first bought it at a small shop for $20.00.  I fell in love with the trug, loved the chippiness, the color....not so much.  I let it keep it's original color for a few days though.  After a few days, it got a coat of white, and some dark wax, and the inside partitions got a light blue.  I liked it better in white. It was about that time that I learned how to transfer graphics to wood using mod podge, so that was the next change.  I added a rooster to both sides of the trug.   Yesterday was the day to update it.  I had just a wee bit of ASCP in blue left in a sample jar.  So I added just a little water to thin it some, and brushed it on to the trug. I bought this lamp several years ago.  It really doesn't put out a lot of light.  It requires the tiny based chandy bulb, the inside of the shade is gold, and the outside black, so it really is no more than a night light.  It has sat in the guest bath for some time, seldom ever used.   So I just grabbed it up with the intention of covering the shade in something to cover the black. I purchased these scented drawer liners at the consignment shop for $2.99, and decided to use a sheet to cover the lamp shade. Isn't the box pretty? I simply wrapped the paper around the shade, and cut the paper so that I could fold the edges under and glue them around the top and bottom of the shade. Doesn't this paper look like silky fabric? It turned out pretty good, but the floral design didn't match the yellow Victorian boot base.   Out comes the Annie Sloan Louis Blue for a quick fix.    I think it is a cute change.  Nice ch...

I've always liked the color blue, but had gotten away from using a lot, but recently, I've found a new fondness for it.   I've had this old trellis for years.  It has been painted several colors, but currently sports ASCP Louis Blue.  I painted last week, and had left it in the basement, not knowing what I would do with it.  Then I thought of a unique way to work it into my inside decor. I've had some blue in my bedroom for a while, a chair, and this sweet stool. It was found at an antique mall for $12.00, and was already painted just as it is now. Know where I put the trellis? On the wall above the table near the master bath.   The sign is from Kirklands, and was already hanging in this spot, so I hung it on the trellis. OK, I'm tired of red!  I've had red decor since the day after Thanksgiving.  So today, I changed the dining room table.  You would think I could wait one more day until "love" day is past, but nope, not me. Table needs a change.  :) These changes were made without spending any money.   I started by adding this blue quilted runner to the table. I found it at a consignment shop.  Seems like I might have paid $8 to $10 for it.  It's reversible, and the other side has stripes. I kept the silver chargers and added the blue and white china.  It is Bridal Bouquet by American Limoges and has a silver rim. I like the elegance of the china with the casualness of the drop cloth table cloth and the quilted runner. (I haven't gotten the napkins ironed yet). The top of the hutch at the lake house holds some blue enamelware that I just love.  It belonged to my MIL.  I use a lot of the items that were hers.  This home is where hers was previously, so we kept many of her things.  There is a small boiler and a large dish pan in addition to these pieces.  They are in use right now. I was thinking the other day that I'd like to have a pot rack to hang these from.  Maybe I'll find one that will work there. I really like the design on these casserole dishes.  I love roosters, and the red, white, and blue colors are some of my favorites. My husband's favorite color is blue, so he had already bought blue furniture before we married.  It is like new, so we kept it.  I'm glad blue is coming back in style. Today I am sharing a little bench I bought from Habersham Plantations Furniture many years ago, probably 20 years.  When it was purchased, it was a country blue.  I think the shape of the bench is what drew me to it.  It has been all over the place since then, has been many different colors.  I remember it being red, green, yellow, beige, then blueberry blue, the color on my front door.  (used left over paint for that one)  I failed to get a photo before I started this project, but you can see the darker blue color here. I had mixed some homemade chalk paint using leftover flat white ceiling paint, plaster of paris, and water. I put one coat on, sanded the top and let it dry.  Then I painted another coat on, and once dry, I distressed it heavily as you can see below.
