Blue Christmas in the Dining Room

Today, I'm sharing my Christmas dining room.   I'm using my drop cloth table cloth as a base, and a piece of toile remnant from the clearance bin at Wal Mart ($2.00) as a runner. For the centerpiece, I used my white cake stand as a pedestal, and added a milk glass vase filled with turquoise and silver ornaments.  I made these turquoise burlap trees a couple weeks ago.    My place setting is simple and uncluttered, only a silver charger and white plate, white napkins ( I made), and silver napkin rings, with a clear goblet.   Simple and elegant. I changed the napkin rings  when I found a bag of these candle rings at a consignment shop.  At least that's how the tag identified these. I like the snow flake baubles on these, and decided they would look good as napkin rings.  Below, you can see them used as a candle ring. It makes me happy to find items at different places that look like they were made f

Christmas Past

Kim has asked us to post photos from Christmas Past for today's Wow Us Wednesday, so that is what I'm doing.  Lots of photos, so get comfy, and enjoy!! Christmas 2012 Traditional Decor Snowmen were used throughout the house. My Dining Room Table, 2012 This snowman was a gift to me by a lady who made it from an old chenille bedspread. This wreath is filled with snow men.  These sweet snow men were made by a co-worker's mother.  I think they are made from baby sox.  They are so cute!! This snowman is a cookie jar, a gift from a co-worker. Christmas 2011 Dining table, simple dropcloth runner.  The bookcase, all dressed for Christmas. A favorite plate from the thrift shop. A gift from a former neighbor.  She cut this out herself.  So pretty!!   A cherub that I whitewashed.  Please look for me at Wow Us Wednesday !  There'll be lots of great links for you to visit! A Few Subtle Holiday Touches

I've placed a few subtle touches of Christmas around the house and am sharing them with you today. If you are a follower, you know that I'm teaching myself to paint.  I had this canvas that I had painted that looked horrible, so Saturday night I gessoed the entire thing so I could paint over it.  I left it to dry overnight, and had no idea what I would paint on it.  I went down to my little basement craft area yesterday afternoon, and began painting.  First I laid down a green and antique white (blended) background.  Once that dried, I took some cardboard letters I had and tried to spell out " Merry Christmas" with them.  I was missing letters, so I looked for a word that I did have all the letters for, and came up with 'noel'.  I hot glued them to the canvas. and began painting.  I placed a bunch of holly and berries in the corner underneath 'noel'.  Then I painted 2 ornaments on, and then I added the tree limbs to the painting.   Here is th

Sunday in the Sun Room

I awoke this morning to blue skies and sunshine!  It has been dreary here for the last 3 days, so this is a welcome relief.  So I am enjoying the sun room. The light this room gets is great whether a sunny or cloudy day. Such a peaceful room. Soft colors, wicker. Comfortable and peaceful, Sunday in the sun room... a great place for contemplation and meditation, and being thankful for all God's blessings. Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; His love endures forever.  I Chronicles 16:34 Let's join: Sunday Show Off Linky Party @ Twigg Studios Seasonal Sundays @ The Tablescaper

Makeover Items to Create a Set

It's not hard to figure out that turquoise is my current favorite color.  I've brought it into most of the rooms in my home.   One of the ways I brought it into my kitchen was to paint unrelated items in the same color, creating a 'set'. I painted this knife block some time ago. Then later, I gave the bread box a makeover with the same Valspar Paint Sample. Last week, I picked up this letter/mail holder that had been laying in the basement forever, and dry brushed it with the same color. Stencils were used to paint the designs and lettering on these, and by using the same color and the fleur de lis, I have a set of items. Creating this set cost nothing since I had the stencils already, the paint was a free sample from lowes, and I had all the items for quite a while.  I like how they coordinate in my kitchen. Do you have any items you could use this way by simply painting them? I did a quick painting yesterday. I
