Sharing Shadymont, My Mountain Cottage

I was in Lowe's a few days ago and bought new house numbers. We took ours down when the house was last painted and had never put them back. I almost bought a small white plaque to put the numbers on, but it wasn't what I wanted, so I didn't get it. Since then, about 2 weeks, I've been scoping out the "wood" items in Good Will, and have almost settled for items, that I didn't really like but knew I could paint and work with them. Again, I waited. Then I went for Sr. Day, and found what I wanted. Look at the shape of this frame, and the way it is distressed. Pure perfection, except the burlap is dirty, much worse than it seems in the photo! I didn't think but I could have just painted over the burlap, and had a white background without all the work of taking this apart.  It wasn't really meant to be taken apart, but I figured out a way to do it. A dash into Good Will and I found this picture featuring birds. Not that I needed another picture of birds, but I just like them. Please excuse the glare coming from the dining room.  It's double matted, and was only $4.94. I also found two large pieces of fabric.  One was 2 yards at 48" wide.  I used it to make curtains for the dining room, but haven't hung them yet.  Haven't felt like climbing.  The fabric is the same as the background in the frame below.  This fabric was $2.92. I stapled a scrap of it onto this aqua frame and hung the new artwork I found at GW in the center of it.  I had enough still to make a runner.  I just need to hem the remnant. The second roll of fabric  had about 5 yards.  I used it to cover over the love-seat sleeper in the office/library.  It is a very pale blue with a pattern.  The photo doesn't do it justice. I simply cut it into 2 pieces and it made a good sofa cover in the office...

Today I am sharing my second hand finds from Good Will, Senior day, which is on Tuesday.  They also have a Veterans discount day on Thursday's which I qualify for from my late husband's service in Vietnam. The table linens have been in short supply the last few times I've gone, but I did find this table runner that will work for fall. The rug under my breakfast table has the same colors, so they are working well together. I found this nice compote that is the centerpiece for this table. I really liked this bowl, so I purchased it.  I might use it for succulents or an ivy.  I like the design. Looks like I have the beginnings of a green bowl collection, purely unintentional. The blue bottle is from Crate & Barrel.  I added a single burlap flower.  A good transition piece for fall. I've been hitting the book section pretty hard recently. I recently shared with you how I found all this fabric at Good Will on Senior discount day, and paid less than $6 for all this. Notice the three off-white pieces at the bottom of this stack. Combined, there was enough of this to make 8 curtain panels for our bedroom.  I have already used the blue/burgundy/rose fabric in the center to make a slipcover for a chair. (below) There was less than a half yard of scraps when I finished the panels. I could use those scraps and make tie-backs. Someone had started a project using this fabric. It had masking tape on areas that were folded down.  It all came off fairly easy, and I was able to make it work.  I'm not sure what the makeup of the fabric is; it has a stretchy feel, a canvas/denim look and texture.  ( please excuse the lighting in these photos, it was cloudy and raining when they were taken). The weather here is gorgeous.  Blue sky, just a slight nip in the air, just the kind of weather to shop some yard sales.  I've found several the last 2 days that were really good ones, and of course a few good finds.  The find I'm happiest about is this wonderful fabric. There is 5 yards of fabric at 66" wide, price $1.00 !!  I plan to make curtains for my bed room.  I will have to add a band of some type of trim to make them the length I need, but I'm thinking drop cloth at the top or bottom will do the trick, and I already have that!! This was a $2.00 find, and I liked it, but when I looked at the bottom, I couldn't resist it!!  Kathy Adams was my name for 35 years!!  (my first marriage).  Felt kinda eerie!! I bought this chair at a moving sale some time back for $15.00.  I love the engraving on it, and the needlepoint seat, but still, it was looking so tired and drab.  It cost so little, I knew it would be alright to paint it.  I have a bottle of Chalk Paint that is called Ballet Slippers. It's pink as you would expect. Early yesterday morning, I decided a quick project was in order, so I placed an old towel underneath the chair, and got busy. I removed the seat, and started painting.  First, I painted the pieces across the back white, being sure to not paint so heavy that the engraved area would be covered too much. Then I painted the remainder of the chair in pink, and left it to dry.   My daughter, granddaughters and I went shopping, so I picked up 3/4 yards of this lovely fabric at Joann's for $2.25.  The pink in the fabric works well with the paint, and the teal color is the same as the walls in this room.
