Mantel Decor

Sometimes when I change things around, I might try several different looks before deciding on the one that makes the 'cut'.   This was the case recently.  I was trying to decide what I wanted on the mantel after all the red of the past few months.  First I tried this look. I placed this picture (actually wood) on books to elevate it a little.  I then added the DT birds and the flower pot (consignment buy).  I actually left it this way for a few hours, but it didn't "feel" right.  I like the items I used, and in looking at these photos, it may be the two green vases (see first photo) that threw it off. I think I might recreate this for Easter and use other items, instead of the green vases. What do you think?  Maybe add some bunnies?   Maybe some bowls and pitchers??? This just might show up again.....soon! I will joing these fun parties: Share Your Cup   Open House Thursday Creative Things Thursday   Stru

HELP!!! PLEASE!!

Does anyone have HTML code to re-insert "join this site" on the Google Friends gadget for Blogger?  Mine is gone, so no one can join that way.  Followers are still there, but no link to click on to join by GFC.  Please email to me if you have it or can capture it from your html code. ALSO, part of my sidebar bounces as you scroll down the page.  Has anyone ever had this happen, and if so, how did you fix it? I'd appreciate any help you could give!  This is so frustrating!!!

Turquoise, Tulips, and Thankfulness

I love having touches of turquoise/aqua around the house.   A vignette on a table in the family room This cloche covers a taper holder in the shape of a tulip.   I'll bet that the men who worked with these insulators never imagined that we would collect them, let alone, DECORATE with them.  This one is special because my late father-in-law who was an electrician for the city where they lived, actually brought this one home.  I seriously doubt he would believe that it is considered a treasure to us.  It made a great door stop for many years. This table cloth just screams Spring with its tulips!!   Then of course, these Atlas and Ball jars provide more pops of turquoise for this table vignette with the bird and rabbit hinting at Spring. I am gradually tweaking certain areas of the house in preparation for the change of the Seasons, that time of rebirth that we all anxiously await..... that time when we can stop and smell the roses, a

Angels Gather Here

When I was shuffling things around on the bookcases the other day, I decided to group some of my angel collection on the white chippy one.  I have more, but decided these were enough for the shelf. These angels were sold as a set and available at Sam's Club a number of years ago.   The angel with the ukelele was bought at Kirkland's, as was the candleholder.  The angel to the right can be used as a tree ornament, or stood as I have it.   All the clear angels were gifts from a former employer.  The ones with the gossamer wings are from Kirkland's. The ones below - from Kirkland's. More from the sets sold by Sam's. Such delicate features. I am no longer adding to my collection, but still like to display them. What is your favorite collection? Bookcase Shuffle

My favorite spot to sit directly faces the fireplace and bookcases.  So, I'm sitting here BORED this morning, and decided I needed to change my view a little.  I removed everything from the bookshelf, dusted, and gave this bookcase a little makeover.  I love the sewing drawer I painted a while back, so I moved it to the bookcase so I can see it.  All I did to decorate it was add a doily and these sweet pink flowers. I just adore this drawer.     Here you can see two of the shelves.   Not only can I enjoy the drawer, I can see three cloches each holding a bird. I love this color of pink.  It provides a bright focal point. I placed this little bird on an egg, in this pot that holds a nest with eggs. Such an easy change, no cost, and more bright and cheerful. Almost Spring.....Maybe?

I've noticed the jonquils are blooming, but I'm afraid the current low temperatures are going to freeze their blooms.  I love the first bursts of yellow that come forth in the Spring, the sound of birds singing.  With that in mind, I changed the mantel decor, and added some birds here and there.   The mantel now holds this picture of hydrangeas.  I added the candles and a pineapple finial, and a bronze bird.   On the bombe table are two birds I bought at Dollar Tree.  Their colors make me smile.  The colors of Spring. Precious little birds!! Such vibrant colors! Are you looking forward to Spring? Motivate Me Monday

Hydrangeas on the Gate

Out with the red!  To change out the entry from Valentine's decor, I placed hydrangeas in the "gate" and hung it  above the entry table. I took a wreath apart to get the flowers. The "gate" is so versatile and such a fun piece to work with. I  need to change out the lamp, or at least the shade.  So I will be on the lookout for that.  I might just shop the house, or make a shade cover.   Yes, gotta change the look of the shade. Love this gate!! Later:  Okay, I looked through my stash of fabric, and made a cover for the lamp shade.  I took the shade off, and traced around one side of it.  Then I just cut out four pieces of fabric like the pattern, hemmed around the edges, then sewed the four pieces together, and here is the new look for the lamp. I bought this fabric at a remnant sale several years ago. I changed out the flowers too, so I think this is looking better.  (for the time being).   I think it turned out pretty good,
