Decorate an Old Wooden Box

I love it when I find old wooden boxes, sewing machine drawers, tool boxes, etc. If they are reasonably priced, they might find a place in my home. This little yellow box, was found at a local antique mall a few years ago.  It recently was used to store some silverware, and stashed inside the china cabinet. Yesterday, I decided I wanted to put it out so I could enjoy it. I'm using it for a punch of color on the bookcase.  I shopped the house for items and came up with this. This wonderful red candy dish, a bunch of red roses, and a small green pitcher of ivy.  I think it adds just the punch of color this mostly white bookcase needs. Do you use old boxes for decorating?  Try it, they bring texture, and interest to your decor. As an aside, look at this sweet bird house my daughter had made for me back in the 80's.  The little nail keg on the porch actually has tiny nails.  My former name was Adams, so the sign says, Adams General S...

Pretty in White

Do you ever just have the blahs?  I've been so lazy for the last couple weeks. No energy to do anything!!  Today I finally did some cleaning, but as far as having any creative energy, well that's just not happening right now.  On that note, I was looking through some of my photos and decided to get a post together from photos with a common theme.  So, hope you enjoy these "white" vignettes. This makes me wish for Spring. Birds, bird cages, green plants Tea time. I'm really going to try to get back in the swing of creating.  Hope you are feeling creative and not stuck with the winter blahs like me. Decorating the Breakfast Nook

I found the runner on the pie safe at a consignment shop.  I think I gave around four dollars for it.  Now y'all know I change everything multiple times, so the top of the pie safe stayed this way for a day or so before it got Christmas decor added to the runner.  (below) I dug out a silver tray, added some mica show, a little bird house, snowman, Santa, and 2 red pine cones.  Then I pulled out the Merry Christmas blocks and added them to the vignette.  I love th e tall pencil Santas. I have a sofa table that I use as a side board in the breakfast nook.  I pulled some items together for its top. This runner is from Dollar General. The dishes on the rack are very very old, and full of crazing.  The ceramic snowman is a cookie jar, a gift from a former co-worker. The chenille snowman was handmade and given to me by my hair dresser.  I just love the chenille snowman!! Here's a vignette from the kit...
