Little Changes

We returned from the lake house on Saturday, so I worked in the house some yesterday, and today.  Yesterday I dusted everything and today I did the floors changed the sheets, and washed the bath rugs.  I'll clean the bathrooms tomorrow.  As usual, when I clean, I move things around.  So here's the latest. One of the plates I hung on Sunday fell during the night and broke, so I moved the newest plate to the bookcase.  I had bought the adhesive disks to hang the plates, but one of them came loose.  So.....there you go.  I'll go back to using the wire hangers, if I can find some.   I moved the plant philodendron away from the entry way to the corner of the dining room.  It just seemed too crowded the other way. I sat it on the old apple crate. My consignment shop chair did sit here, but now it's in the opposite corner. (for now). I might move it to the living room or office. I moved this tray and arrangement to the bookcase too. The to

Time to Bring in the Plants

WARNING: LONG POST The weather channel is predicting very cold weather, maybe snow in the most northern counties of Georgia, due to Hurricane Sandy.  This is being called the storm of the century because it will join with a winter storm.   I brought the plants in from the screened porch today and placed all of them except one plant in the sun room.  The philodendron is so big it won't fit in the sun room, so I have it between the dining room and the front entry. See how big this bad boy is!  It grew from a bulb I dug from a plant like it at work several years ago.  The leaves on my plant are twice as large as those on the plant at work, and much stronger.  I have really enjoyed this one. These are not very big, so they're not a problem to place at all.  I put them in the sun room so they will get lots of light. A friend at work brought me a tiny cutting of this plant too, and it has done extremely well. I should re-pot these plants.  Maybe I'll do

Redware Pottery

This little beverage set has been sitting on top of the kitchen cabinets at the lake house.  I knew it was vintage, but didn't know much else about it.  Well it happens to be glazed brown red ware made in Japan.  It was very popular in the 1940's.  The design is hand painted in a relief painting style called Moriage.  I don't think it's worth a lot of money, but it is in excellent condition.  It belonged to my MIL.  Hope I look this good when I'm 70 years old.  :) Isn't it pretty? The painting is raised.  The orange and brown is great for this time of year. Here it sits on the kitchen table on an old silver tray I painted white.  These are Dollar Tree flowers in an old hobnail vase.  These place mats blend well with the flowers. I'm so glad I thought to get the pottery off the cabinet top and place them on the table. Feathered Nest Friday at: http://frenchcountrycottage.blogspot.com Potpourri Friday at 2805 http

Let's Getaway to the Lake

I love fall at the lake house.  It's much cooler than in the summer time, and I don't spend the whole time inside with the air conditioning!  Our SW GA county borders both Alabama and Florida, and it can be so humid.  We drove down yesterday, and today I have the windows open, and there's a cool breeze blowing off the lake, and it's just wonderful.  I got out early this morning and decided to take a few pictures to show you.   My husband came down a few weeks ago without me.  I stayed home to be available to carry my granddaughter to school and pick her up because my daughter had to be out of town. While hubby was here alone, he decided to stain the porches.  He chose a cedar color that I am just loving!  The picture above is on the front porch, facing the lake.   Doesn't the floor look great!! I really like the design of the wood on our porches. Our carpenter guys came up with it themselves, and did a fabulous job on it.  They had a guy who w

Unusual Tables

I have several unusual items I use as tables.  One of them is this old apple crate.  Our home was built where an apple orchard once existed, and this crate was one used by the orchard owner.  I just love this old crate. Here I used it in the breakfast nook.  This wall is still decorated with grape motif items.    These items are from Kirklands several years ago. You may remember the lamp shade cover I made of burlap. This plant stand is used in the guest bath to hold wash cloths, tissue, and a book. This little bench is used as a table here. Here this vintage step stool serves as a table of sorts, holding a floral arrangement. A chair can be used as a table for a plant to sit or to hold a vignette.
