This little beverage set has been sitting on top of the kitchen cabinets at the lake house. I knew it was vintage, but didn't know much else about it. Well it happens to be glazed brown red ware made in Japan. It was very popular in the 1940's. The design is hand painted in a relief painting style called Moriage. I don't think it's worth a lot of money, but it is in excellent condition. It belonged to my MIL. Hope I look this good when I'm 70 years old. :)
Isn't it pretty?
The painting is raised. The orange and brown is great for this time of year.
Here it sits on the kitchen table on an old silver tray I painted white. These are Dollar Tree flowers in an old hobnail vase. These place mats blend well with the flowers.
I'm so glad I thought to get the pottery off the cabinet top and place them on the table.

I adore this set and how special that it belonged to your MIL. It is perfect for this time of the year. Thanks for sharing it with us. Have a nice weekend. Mildred
ReplyDeleteBeautiful.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely set, I too love things with a past history regardless of value, I think if it is in rough shape and valueless I tend to like it more! But I am weird that way. That last effect photo of the flowers is great!! Looks just like an oil painting.
ReplyDeleteKathy,
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful history. Your homes are lovely, too! Just took the tour.
I'll be your newest follower!
We both retired in March, btw.
