I found the runner on the pie safe at a consignment shop.  I think I gave around four dollars for it.  Now y'all know I change everything multiple times, so the top of the pie safe stayed this way for a day or so before it got Christmas decor added to the runner.  (below) I dug out a silver tray, added some mica show, a little bird house, snowman, Santa, and 2 red pine cones.  Then I pulled out the Merry Christmas blocks and added them to the vignette.  I love th e tall pencil Santas. I have a sofa table that I use as a side board in the breakfast nook.  I pulled some items together for its top. This runner is from Dollar General. The dishes on the rack are very very old, and full of crazing.  The ceramic snowman is a cookie jar, a gift from a former co-worker. Do you remember the beautiful Festive Holly (Nikko/Japan) dinnerware I bought last year at the consignment sale I helped my daughter with?  I researched on Replacements.com, and they would have cost $419.50 if I'd bought them a piece at the time (doesn't include shipping).  I got all this for $19.50!!  Probably my best bargain EVAH!!  Not even a single chip! Last year, I used gold chargers.  This year I'm using silver.  They are the only new item on this table, and were 98 cents each at Wal Mart. I could hardly wait to get them out again this year. Aren't they pretty?? This table cloth was bought at the same consignment sale for $4 - $5.  I just draped it over the drop cloth table cloth on the table, since it's only 52" x 70". I hope everyone is having a great Sunday.  We've had a sad weekend.  My brother-in-law (from my first marriage), passed away, probably from a massive heart attack, just as my late husband did.  He was the last living male in their immediate family, all of them passing away in their forties or fifties.  So tragic. Nothing takes my mind off of sadness more than puttering in my house, so this morning, I started changing things somewhat, to more of a Thanksgiving theme.   I switched table cloths around, and took away quite a few items and stacked them to go back in storage.   The first thing I did to bring in Thanksgiving was place this colorful "turkey" platter on an easel.  I love the colorful design.  I have a large white turkey platter, but just felt in the mood to display this one. In our area, lots of folks hold yard sales on Friday and Saturday.  On Friday I decided to go to a few listed in our local paper, and did I find a winner!!  I also stopped by Habitat Restore.  They had a lot of good items, but they seemed to be priced a little higher than I wanted to pay.  Here are the items I bought at a yard sale.   This tablecloth was only $2.00.   Not a single stain.   Doesn't it look pretty in the sun room?   This bread box is in excellent condition, clean, and matches my counter top exactly.  The lady selling it did the finish.  $8.00.   Isn't it pretty?  I've wanted a nice bread box for some time. Love how the roosters match it too.   I've been looking for some scrabble letters like I've seen some of you use, and I found a scrabble game for $2.00.   So.....total spent $12.00! On Saturday, I went to a couple of yard sales and to a favorite antique/consignment shop.   Look what I bought for fifty cents each.  The tower corner shelf of course was a varnished dark pecan color.  I used my last smidgen of ASCP to give it a white coat, then sanded it in spots.  I left the blackboard as it was.  $1.00 bought me both these items, neither of which I needed.  (lol)  The shelves are heart shaped, so it will come in handy for valentine's decor. The shelf unit can be used on its side as well.  I actually like it better on its side.  I placed it on the back of the toilet in the master, and it makes a cute holder for extra tissue rolls.  It could also be used to hold books.   It's a versatile piece that I will use a lot.
