Sharing Shadymont, My Mountain Cottage

I've had this corner cupboard since 1977.  That was when my late husband and I built our first home.   At the time I worked at a local hardware and furniture store, and was able to purchase it for $125.00.  It's still in perfect condition, and I'll keep it in its original finish. It has no scratches or anything on it.  I have no idea what one like it would cost today, but much more than that I'm sure.   Right now, I have crystal pieces, a set of china, and various accessories displayed in it.  Oh no, I cut off the rooster's head in this photo.  :(   Inside I did a couple of really small projects this past weekend.  When I say small, believe me.   I saw napkins folded into roses on someone's website, and gave it a try.   They actually came out pretty good, and were very simple to do. I've been bringing more Spring items into our rooms even though I'm not sure Spring is here quite yet.   It was around 64 degrees this morning when I left for work, and now at 9:00 PM, it's down to 45 and supposed to be 34 in the morning.  Kinda wonky weather in North Georgia.  I did notice the weeping cherry trees are starting to bud, though, so maybe it won't be much longer . How do you like my little Mommy and Baby rabbits?  I found this a couple of years ago at a consignment shop. It's Springtime on top of the jelly cupboard.  The window swag is made from a twin size sheet. I found the bird cage at an antique shop, I believe.  There's no way to open it to place anything in it, but I may be able to insert some greenery through the bars.   In the family room, I have a cloche within a cloche!   (Playing with Picasa) And, what would Spring be without tulips? Gotta figure out where I want to put this picture.  Maybe on the mantel. Wishing everyone

I realize I may be rushing things, but I've been longing for Spring.  After the reds of Christmas and then Valentine's Day, it's time for some lighter colors. So....this morning, I got busy and made a few changes in the dining room and sun room.  Here are a few shots of the changes. First, the dining room......  I removed the runner made from drop cloth fabric and burlap ribbon. This runner is a piece of fabric that I found at my favorite consignment shop. I brought out the little "Spring" box that I bought last year. Here's my favorite bird house.  I re-painted it last year, adding the pink and green. Then I brought out the little rabbit, cloche, and the green bird.  The plant is a spider plant.  A co-worker gave me a cutting off hers.  Can't wait until it gets larger.   This tablecloth was bought at a thrift shop last year.   The rabbit family was bought at the consignment sale my daughter had a while back. I first showed you this old apple crate a few months ago.  The property where we live was once part of an apple orchard .   This crate was found in an old building.  I have been using it on the screened porch.  Yesterday, I was 'piddling' around and decided to bring the crate inside.  I placed it in the sun room beside the rocker.   It's a great place to sit a drink (if I would move my pretties).  It also has room to hold the magazine box. I love the shabby look it adds to the sun room. It's so fascinating to note how various lamps cast their light in different ways.   The rooster lamp gives off a bright light, and is one of our favorites.  This photo was taken after dark but you can see how much light is in the room. This lamp gives off very little light, yet provides a warmness to the area.   This lamp is shown a few photos down, and gives off an entirely different glow.  In the photo above, the small lamp gives off lots of light against the white book case and casts the light upward.   The buffet lamp above doesn't cast light on a wide area, but gives lots of ambiance to the area where it sits. The light of this lamp is cast mostly downward. Then there is the sunlight.  It casts shadows across this table, in a way no lamp can.  Have you ever noticed this?  Do you use lamps to create a certain ambiance in an area?
