Feathering My Nest

I first showed you this old apple crate a few months ago.  The property where we live was once part of an apple orchard.   This crate was found in an old building.  I have been using it on the screened porch.  Yesterday, I was 'piddling' around and decided to bring the crate inside.  I placed it in the sun room beside the rocker.   It's a great place to sit a drink (if I would move my pretties).  It also has room to hold the magazine box. I love the shabby look it adds to the sun room.

Next I changed out the center piece on the breakfast table.  This tin was bought at Wal Mart several years ago.  I added the rooster and Home Sweet Home rub on labels.

One more shot of the dining room table.  I've been thinking about how to set the table for March.  Be sure to come back and see what I decide on.

I'll be linking up to the following great parties:

  5. Lucky you. I'd love to find an apple crate and I love it next to the wicker chair. I love wicker and have a trunk and a side table, but I haven't found a chair at the right price. Love the detail on your dining room chairs.

  8. I love seeing pieces of a home's history being used, so it's wonderful you found a way to use the apple crate in your home. We built our house, so somehow I don't think raw lumber would have the same history. Hee hee. Your dining room tablescape is very pretty too. I love thw white with the touch of red. Thanks for linking this post to my party!

Thrifty Bookcase Makeover

About a year ago, I was working on a photo gallery area at the lake home. There is an area about 7x7 between the living room, and the hall bath. I bought a really inexpensive ($20.00) bookcase to use there to hold family photos. I hurriedly placed photos on it, and didn't think much about it.   The last time we were at the lake, I was sitting there looking at how badly it looked, wondering what I could do to spruce it up a little.  It had all colors/types of picture frames -red, pink floral, wood, brass, you name it!   I remembered seeing adhesive shelf liner at the Dollar General the day before.  So I made a quick trip back there, and bought one 9 ft. roll for less than $3.00.  I know this is not an original idea and has been done by lots of people, but I wanted to show you anyway.   First, I emptied out all the photos, pulled out the shelves, measured, and cut the paper to fit inside the bookcase.  I also took all the photos out of the frames and w...

Stenciled Burlap Pillow

I just have to share my no sew pillow project.  I had some burlap fabric in my fabric stash, and decided I would use it to cover a pillow.  First, I found an old pillow I no longer use.  I spread the burlap out on the floor and laid my pillow on it so I could cut the fabric big enough to cover it.  I was so intent on the project, I didn't make any pictures of the process. Once the burlap was cut, I folded in the sides about an inch, and glued it down with Tacky Glue, pressing it down several times with my fingers.  I did this all the way around the fabric, and laid it aside to dry over night.  The Tacky Glue dries clear. My next step was to determine how I could lap the fabric over the cushion in an envelope fashion.  I had tried to get my computer to print out a graphic that would show up on the burlap, but printer problems interfered with that plan, so I found the center, and stenciled it with the tree stencil I bought at Michael's. ...
