Sharing Shadymont, My Mountain Cottage

I spent several hours one morning last week,  trying to get the fall decor on the hall tree in the foyer to look like I wanted. After several tries, I finally liked it well enough to stop tweaking it. First I removed everything I had on it. before I swapped out everything on it including the lamp.  I decided to use this really old one.  I do like this lamp though. Alot! Do you remember these lamps?  I think some people used to place ruffled cloth shades on them.  When were these popular, maybe the 70's? I kept it simple, the lamp, a brown metal vase with fall flowers, a book with rust, orange, and green colors, and this owl.   after Then I hung this wreath I decorated the other day, on one of the hooks, and called it finished. On the bottom shelf, I placed a long brown wooden container filled with fall leaves and pumpkins. A quick trip to the consignment shop netted me a few goodies that I can use for fall decorating.  They will add a subtle fall look which is what I'm after this season.  I don't want a whole lot of bright color, just a subdued touch of color.  I have the colorful curtains in the dining and living room (made from fall fabric tablecloths), so I don't need a lot of other things. This fabulous tin is one of my new treasures.  I just love the colors, and it has an unusual curved shape.  I got two of the orange berry candle rings too.  So this is one end of the mantle. I bought this Readers Digest book because of it's colors, rust, gold, and the front has green and orange, so it blends in perfectly, used to elevate the small picture, which I found today.  It's not as big as an 8 x 10, but the picture is probably 4x6.  The tone of the colors are perfect for my subtle vignette. Quite a while back, I painted my knife block, bread box, and hanging mail/bill holder in a turquoise color from a paint sample from Lowe's.  I stenciled fleur de lis on all the pieces, to make them a set. I decided to give them a makeover. I used Waverly, White Chalk Paint, and a little mod podge to attach graphics. BEFORE: AFTER: I found the "bread" graphic on Graphics Fairy, and the one of bread loaves from a CANSTOCK site. The tile backsplash in the kitchen has the design below above the stove top, and various tiles have one vegetable, as you can see above. To continue the theme, I found pictures of the same veggies to place on the mail holder. I added a little distressing along the edges. I like the change.    This was an easy and free makeover since I used items I already had, and just printed the graphics and photos off the computer. Recently, I pulled out some of my fall floral items and created a small wreath and a wall/door arrangement. I'm recycling supplies I already had to make something new. I bought a small grapevine wreath for $2 recently and decided to attach items to make it work for the fall season.  I started by hot gluing some burgundy and orange flowers on, added some berries and leaves, a pumpkin, and our initial "M".  I found a piece of mesh ribbon to make a bow, and here is the final product. I've had this cone shaped metal container with the cupid face for several years.  It came from Kirkland's.  To make this arrangement, I used floral putty to attach a piece of green floral foam to the inside. Then I clipped various floral and leave stems from fall bushes I had, and randomly arranged them inside the cone. It will be pretty hanging on the front porch, probably beside the door. I typically wait until after Labor Day to start my fall decorating.  Yesterday while in Wal Mart to pick up a prescription, I browsed through the fall decor, and saw these fabulous tablecloths.  I have recently noticed a couple of bloggers hanging table cloths for drapes.  And at $9.97 for each of these panels, it's a great bargain. Besides, the design just spoke to me!!  I haven't gone all out getting ready for fall, but I brought in different table runners, some rusty colored flowers, and changed the dining room from pinks and blues to rust colors. I remember an old song from years ago, called Brighten the Corner.  That is what I did in a corner of the dining room.  For a very long time, a tall dark piece stood here. I recently moved it to the master bedroom.  Seen below. To brighten this corner,  I gathered several pieces and by layering them together, created a lighter space in the dining room. First, I moved this old door from another corner to use as the backdrop, and as a place to hang other items.  I added this small shelf (thrifting find) to the door. This picture was a consignment find for around $3, and I hung it above the shelf.  I made several of these peat pot arrangements a while ago, so I added one to the shelf. The birdcage is light weight, and the yellow works with the picture.  My granddaughter gave me the little bracelet on the shelf.   This wired frame was added next.  I bought the empty frame at a yard sale, painted it and added the wire to use as a jewelry display.  Yesterday, I added

Our lake home is located in Seminole County, Georgia. It's county seat is a small town, consisting of old store buildings, mostly empty, but a few small shops exist.   While we were riding through town I noticed a "new" store, Front Porch Marketplace!  It's a consignment shop with 29 vendor booths, all offering unique items, mostly hand made items.  I found this lovely table runner, priced at $8.  It's really, really long, so I folded it to fit the table.   These bright colors, called for some yellow and orange flowers for the table, so I dug through my stash here and took care of that! It's so long, I tried it on top of the hutch, to see if I like it there. I might leave it there for a while.  These are some of my MIL's cookbooks, her picture, her bowls....the other items are thrifting finds.
