Sharing Shadymont, My Mountain Cottage

I've been keeping my granddaughter since school got out for summer vacation, and today she wanted the two of us to go for pizza for lunch.  So on the way there, we saw a sign at a nearby really nice subdivision that read "Moving Sale".  After our lunch, we came back and went to the sale.  The lady was letting everyone go through her home.  She was trying to sell everything, and had done a fine job it seemed.  There wasn't a whole lot left considering the size of the home.  I did notice one little treasure that I didn't pass up.  A sweet chair......with curvy legs......a beautiful design on the back...and.......a.....needlepoint seat!! WARNING: LONG POST, LOTS OF PHOTOS! How I turned my least favorite room into my MOST favorite: Here is my previously dark, yucky office.  I don't know what possessed me to put up the border.  It never stuck to the wall very well, and it was just ugly.  It stayed up 10 years or more, until a few weeks ago when I yanked it off the wall!  It left a mess on the walls.  The places where it stuck well, it stuck really well, so it left glue, and paper.  When I tried to get that off, I damaged the sheetrock!  Everything looked awful.  Most of you would have just repaired it yourself, and painted your room that color that has become your favorite!  I am not a good painter when it comes to large areas.  I leave that to the pros! This chair was bought as part of a dining room set when my first house was built, in 1976.   Early American furniture was all the rage.  Remember?? I have two of these chairs that I kept when I sold the table.   The lady who wanted them only wanted the table and 4 chairs. These chairs were very inexpensive, but have lasted 38 years!!!! Y'all know how I love Valspar samples. I had a jar of Redwood Blue Spruce that I got free with one of those coupons that are in some magazines, so I painted one of the chairs.  I mixed some with Plaster of Paris for chalk paint, but did not like how it went on the chair once it dried.  I put a second coat on of the paint only.  Here is the chair after it was painted. I like the change, and am using it in the guest room which has these colors.  I already had the cushion. My sweet granddaughter, Rheagan, 7, loves art. She loves to draw, paint, color.  She loves doing crafts.  She had a small school type desk that I bought her for Christmas, but had outgrown it.  In order to give her a nice desk for her crafting, homework, and art work, I took an old typing desk that I had bought for her Mom when she was a tween, and painted it for Rheagan. Her Mom and I decided on a creamy yellow.  So I bought the paint at Lowe's and got busy so I could have it ready for her for Christmas. As usual, I failed to take a photo of the desk 'before', but imagine it with a light walnut veneer look.   I sanded it down to bare wood, put on two coats of primer, and several coats of paint. I don't have a photo, but the drawer is lined with pink polka dot paper.  I wanted to put a pretty knob on the drawer, but this one could not be removed.  It is somehow made to the drawer, no screw! The other day while doing my daily "move things around" :), I happened to sit this urn with the faux greenery in the seat of this consignment chair. When I started to pick it up to move to another area, I thought....hmmmm, I think I like it sitting in this chair.   After all, the urn is white, the chair seat and back are white, and the brown wood on the chair blends well with the drapes in the dining room., So, I just left it there. And, I think it is going to stay here.  I like it that well.  So I just photographed it, edited/enhanced the photos in Picasa, and now I'm sharing them with you!
