Sharing Shadymont, My Mountain Cottage

I'm keeping my hands busy right now to keep my mind off the adversities that life throws at us from time to time.  Seems like last July when I was at death's door set off a string of events that I could write a book about.  It's been one thing right after another for the year, and even prior to that.  I'm ready for this little black cloud, to clear out.  But through it all I've felt the hand of God close by, saying come to me and rest.   I sincerely hope things lighten up really soon.  But for those of you who believe and pray, I have a very special request I'd like for you to pray about.  God knows what it is and I'm not at liberty to say, but pray for the two young men that Kathy requested.  He'll know what you mean. `````~~~~~~~~~~~~~````````~~~~~~~~~````````~~~~~~``````~` Now, I'm still painting and using up some partial bottles/cans of paints. Diana Wise (Sissie's Shabby Cottage ) identified this table for me when I first bought it at a consignment shop as a Bible Table.  I remember giving only $29.00 for it and wanted it because it reminded me of one my grandmother had that her radio sat on.  Hers was larger than mine. The way I love to change things, this table has remained in the condition/color I bought it for a long time. While in our Wal Mart on Friday, I noticed they had Waverly Chalk Paint again.  They hadn't had any in a very long time, so I bought the aqua, and the ivory colors. Now this little table carries my favorite color, but I'm considering distressing it a little. This tends to be the favorite spot for my guests to sit.  They gravitate directly to this chair, and I must say it is extremely comfortable. We've finished almost all we planned to do at the lake home, so today, still in the mood to be creative, I took a cabinet door that was removed when we installed the dishwasher, and my two bottles of chalk paint, and got busy.  First I painted the entire door in Moss Chalk Paint.  Then I mixed some white in with the Moss and got a lighter green.  So with the darker green as the background, I used the lighter green to paint the border of the door, and the stem and leaves for my white hydrangeas. I used a wide acrylic brush for everything except the flowers.  I painted them by dipping a Q tip into the white paint and making circles. I've been purchasing various chalk paints recently, including the Waverly brand from Wal Mart.  It provides really great coverage.   I painted the coat rack in the mud room white, and distressed it. 

I bought this sofa table back in the 80's.  I've always liked it. Like everything else, it's resided in every room of the house, at one time or another, and at the old house as well.  Most recently, I used it on my side of the bed, as a bedside table.  I use a BiPAP machine, so I require a good sized space on the night stand.  I just never really liked the table used for that, so I decided to swap some tables around throughout the house. I'd also been rolling the thought around in my head to give this table a makeover.  While shopping at JoAnns recently, I picked up a couple bottles of the Folk Art, Home Decor Chalk Paint. One of the bottles was Adirondack White, so I painted the table with it. First, I moved the table into the breakfast room.  This room gets lots of light from the sunroom. I removed the drawer knobs, and gathered my supplies. As usual with chalk paint, no sanding or priming was required, so I got busy painting. ...

I did it!!  I painted the pie cupboard!!  White, with some distressing, and I love it!! Emptied Taped off After 2 coats of homemade chalk paint I lined the shelves with the paper I previously had attached to the backs of them. All filled again with goodies. I used the green and white striped fabric remnant I bought a couple of weeks ago as a runner for the top. You can see that I only lightly distressed it.  I may add a little dark wax, but not sure yet. I am so happy with how this turned out!! Do you remember the wooden compotes that everyone had back in the sixties and seventies, maybe earlier?  I found one this week at Odds and Ends for $8.00.  I looked it up on Eb ay and found a similar one for $42.00. I got a great deal, huh?  I like the scalloped edge. When I saw the compote, I knew what I would do with it.  So I mixed up some homemade chalk paint and went to work painting it white. The paint I used was old, and I had a little trouble getting the consistency I wanted, but I kept slowly adding Plaster of Paris until I got the coverage I needed.  I added a couple of coats, and used the hand sander to distress it after it dried. I went to The Graphics Fairy  website and found the graphic I had in mind and printed it off in two different sizes.  This morning I transferred the graphic to the compote.  I tried using the larger of the two graphics, but had no luck with the first try.  I thought maybe I could subst...
