Sharing Shadymont, My Mountain Cottage

I don't think I've shown the side table in the dining room with its Fall decorations.  This table/cabinet is only about a foot in depth, so it is best to use narrow items on the top.  With that in mind, I brought out this old homemade wood box that I refurbished a good while back.  I painted it with ASCP, distressed it and mod podged some French labels on it.  It is filled with some plates I found at a consignment shop, a small urn with a stick pumpkin, a pear, and some greenery and paper leaves. Here you can see how narrow this piece is.  These napkins ar favorites.  They were a consignment find, and are well worn, the way I like them. This old yellow wood box sits on the other end of the table, and holds other fall items, including a fabric pumpkin I made last year.  I found this little crate/box at an antique mall for about $4.00 some time ago. Lots of folks in blog land are adding stripes to furniture, tables, fabric, and all kinds of things.  I have added stripes to a couple of items that I want to share with you. This table belonged to my paternal grandmother.  I barely remember her.  I do remember using this table like a desk as a little girl.  It was dark brown.  Years later, I started sanding the top and went through multiple layers of paint.  Even an old newspaper sheet was underneath all the paint.  I had used a stripper though, and the paper was ruined, so I don't know why it was there.   When I first started blogging, I was introduced to Annie Sloan Chalk Paint.  This table was the first item I painted with it (Olde White).  I was getting the feel of the paint and dark wax, and ended up waxing it very heavily.  I decided I liked the "stripped" look that the wax brought to the table, so I left it that way. I bought this lamp several years ago.  It really doesn't put out a lot of light.  It requires the tiny based chandy bulb, the inside of the shade is gold, and the outside black, so it really is no more than a night light.  It has sat in the guest bath for some time, seldom ever used.   So I just grabbed it up with the intention of covering the shade in something to cover the black. I purchased these scented drawer liners at the consignment shop for $2.99, and decided to use a sheet to cover the lamp shade. Isn't the box pretty? I simply wrapped the paper around the shade, and cut the paper so that I could fold the edges under and glue them around the top and bottom of the shade. Doesn't this paper look like silky fabric? It turned out pretty good, but the floral design didn't match the yellow Victorian boot base.   Out comes the Annie Sloan Louis Blue for a quick fix.    I think it is a cute change.  Nice ch...

Our powder room is on the left as you come into the foyer, so I try to keep it looking neat and clean all the time.  I found this sweet sign several years ago at a consignment shop, and have really enjoyed it.  It hangs on the door to the powder room. I recently bought this picture which ended up in the powder room.   A reader told me it is an old Home Interiors picture.  I like the shape of the frame, but not the color so much.  I decided to paint the outer part of the frame in ASCP, Louis Blue because I have trimmed a table in the room in that color.   I taped off the frame between the green and white parts with painter's tape. Next I painted it in Louis Blue. Next,  I distressed it with a sanding block so that some of the green would show.
