Screened Porch, Ready for Warm Weather

Every year, we bring this small ladder to the screened porch to hold my plants/flowers.  It just doesn't seem right without it.  I went to the store this afternoon to buy plants for the pots, and stopped by Dollar General and picked up a few pretties for the porch too. I found this sweet bird house.  I loved its unusual shape, and the bright colors.  Of course I had to have this pretty bird too. The bird and bird house are perched on top of the ladder.  Then I have two post with spider plants left from a year ago.  Today, I bought Ivy, Creeping Jenny, petunias, and the large purple plant (can't think of the name).  I only purchased purple and green items.

Displaying Vintage Kitchen Utensils

I have quite a collection of vintage kitchen tools so I gathered them together in this enamel pan for a display. two small vintage plates, potato mashers, an old grater, biscuit cutter, an ice pick, a flipper I placed them on this kitchen step stool we found a couple years ago in the shed.  It was rusty, but I painted it white. I added an old rolling pin, juicer, flower pot, and canning jar filled with votives and tea lights to the steps of the stool.  (I'll let you in on a secret.....the next time we come down, something in the above photo may get painted white).  :) The ice pick says "Use our Party Ice". Here I added  tarnished silverware to the aqua flower pot, and put it inside the pan, placing the potato mashers and larger utensils in an old jar which I sat beside it.   Some of the silver is so tarnished it is a black color, but it's so appealing to me!  Love this tiny strainer, and the old rolling pin .   Having all thes

Decorating With Repurposed Trays and Boxes

I love decorating using old wooden boxes, trays, drawers, and items that are old, and formerly had other uses.  Like this old wooden box I found a few years ago. It's a simple shipping box that has Made in the USA on it.  I believe it originally held some type of Military supplies.  I've been thinking about giving it a light gray wash. I think I could do that without interfering with the engraving on it.  Here it holds a plant and two repurposed Mason jars I did recently. I have this old tool box that I've filled with bargain flowers and it sits on top of the jelly cupboard in the sun room.  This box has been green, white, blue, and now it's pink!  Versatile to say the least!! Here I've used a tray to corral a group of items for a Spring vignette. Here this wooden trug (I made over by painting white and adding label) holds florals from a yard sale that were a dime for each pot. I made over this bamboo box by painting the inserts t

Hydrangeas and Spring Time at the Lake House

Last year, my husband was given some cuttings of hydrangeas from a friend across the lake.  I can't believe how healthy they are already, and that they are blooming.  I don't know if these will change colors or not.  I don't think the white ones do, but I'm not sure of the exact name of these, so I'll just have to wait and see what happens.  I'd love to have some that I could play with the color on by changing the soil's pH.  But at any rate, I'm just so happy to have any at all. We arrived here on Monday, and the first thing I saw was this single bloom on a bush beside the back steps.

How to Update a Room Without Spending

Recently I posted about how I've lightened my décor throughout the house, all except the guest room.  That had to be changed, and I figured out a way to do it without spending a dime. BEFORE: Fine for the Autumn/Winter months, but a little too dark for the Spring and Summer. Here's what I did. First I swapped out the dark brown curtains for these breezy, lacy toppers that I've had for a long time. To lighten the comforter, I simply reversed (flipped over) it to the solid taupe side. The winter side has swede inserts which the back doesn't have, so this works out great for the warmer months. Just pretend you don't see my reflection in my PJ's in the mirror!  :)

Crushing on Pink

I don't know what's going on with me, but I've been on a "pink" thing lately!  I'm using it everywhere!!  I posted about using more white in my home, and the pink is showing up right along with it!! On the mantel    On the table in the sunroom On the bookcase On the chaise Vignette on the coffee table On the dining room table Also in the dining room On the front door wreath In the master  Thankfully my walls are neutral colors, and I can be versatile with my accessories. Let's Go to the Hen's Nest!!

(Item at Hen's Nest Consignment) The Hen's Nest Consignment Shop in Commerce, GA is one of my favorite shops!  I want to share the shop with you today.  It is chock full of fun items, and a place where I go very often for a  home decor "fix".  Several displays were so eyecatching, I just had to make photos of them.  The ladies there have a great eye for decorating, and it just makes you want to buy everything.  You will definitely pick up some decorating ideas there. (Item at Hen's Nest Consignment) Doesn't this coffee table look beautiful?  I love the drawers and of course the aqua color!! (Display at Hen's Nest Consignment) Isn't this a great idea for holding magazines?  I believe it is a freezer basket!  Great idea to keep in mind and use at home!! (Display at Hen's Nest Consignment) Look at these gorgeous plates!  They have such a wonderful variety of dishware! (Items at Hen's Nest Consignment) Ju
