Sharing Shadymont, My Mountain Cottage

I made it to Good Will Tuesday for Sr. Discount day, and found some nice items that I bought. My favorite find is this picture, which I hung in the sun room, but I'm sure it will travel through the house at some point. I found one curtain panel, and since I like having narrow panels in the dining room with lots of sheers, I have already split it down the center, hemmed the sides and hung them.  They are a little short so I have to come up with something to add to the bottom for length, but I like the way they look.  Til I decide what I'm going to do, I've hidden the shortness by strategically placing the tea cart, and moved my blue table to the other side to hide the other panel.   later :  I remembered an off white panel I bought a while back at GW, and used it to make these longer.  I cut 18" off the bottom of that panel, which saved time and work because I could use the hem, plus it had weights in the hem, so it was a win-win.  I split it in ha...

Recently I've been a crafting fiend!  I've been making rosettes from all kinds of fabric.  Today, I made them from burlap ribbon and garland.  Fun, fun!!  I'm going to show you a few things I've been working on. I showed these rosettes last week.  They can be used for all kinds of things. They can be used as embellishments on necklaces, made into pins, attached to headbands or clips for your hair.  I'm using them to embellish my lamp shades and other items.  Below you see one that I pinned onto this fabric lamp shade. I like the way the colors work together. I watched several You Tube tutorials, and finally came up with my version of burlap rosettes.  I really do like those too.  Below I have attached one to this lampshade with French script. Here another French script lampshade got a fabric rosette, as did this welcome sign. They can be attached to baskets.... ......and candles Look at this lit...

While straightening up my craft closet, I came across some pieces of fabric that I remember my mother having.  She used the white and pink for scarves and runners on dressers, and an old wash stand she had in the dining room. I'm positive the one with blue bows is from a flour sack.  I am one of 7 children, and when we were growing up, my parents would buy 50 pound sacks of flour.  Mama made home made biscuits, usually three times a day, but no less than twice ever! She spent so much time in the kitchen.  It was hard work too!  There was no dishwasher or electrical appliances.  She had a gas stove (finally, in the 60's). Before that I remember a white wood stove that had a 'water well' on one side where you placed water to let it heat.  I remember when we got the gas stove and hot water heater.  Now I'm telling my age for sure.  But memories of my sweet Mama are among my sweetest.
