Thrifting Finds

I made it to Good Will Tuesday for Sr. Discount day, and found some nice items that I bought.

 My favorite find is this picture, which I hung in the sun room, but I'm sure it will travel through the house at some point.

I found one curtain panel, and since I like having narrow panels in the dining room with lots of sheers, I have already split it down the center, hemmed the sides and hung them.  They are a little short so I have to come up with something to add to the bottom for length, but I like the way they look.  Til I decide what I'm going to do, I've hidden the shortness by strategically placing the tea cart, and moved my blue table to the other side to hide the other panel.  

 later:  I remembered an off white panel I bought a while back at GW, and used it to make these longer.  I cut 18" off the bottom of that panel, which saved time and work because I could use the hem, plus it had weights in the hem, so it was a win-win.  I split it in half to 25" for each panel, put a small hem around the top and one side.  Then I attached it to the print panel just even with the top of that hem.   This made the 18"  piece the perfect extension to the panel. They barely skim the floor.  Right now they are just pinned on.  I will attach with the sewing machine when I can.







This piece is ceramic, and can be used in several places in the house.  I just propped it on this easel to photograph it.


I bought 2 huge scarves.  They'll be used as a runner, and the black/orange will make a great backdrop for photos, and will also work as a table topper.  (I wrapped it around a pillow, and it covered it perfectly).





The metal bowl is made from 2 different pieces that happen to work together.  I might spray paint them black.  This makes a perfect spot for these small pumpkins from the farmers market.
This faux wood bowl will get a makeover, but I love the harvest themed engravings. Each side has a different fruit or veggie. It is marked, "made for FTD", and seems to be a hard acrylic type product.  I was thinking it probable held a green plant, or a dish garden.  Once I upgrade it, I'll probably do a small arrangement in it.

Blogging Again From My Mountain Cottage, Shadymont

After a much needed rest, I'm back with a new blog name and a few slight changes, like the template, and the content will vary and not always be home decor, though that is my niche, and I will continue to have it frequently.  But I want to use my blog to also give those who may read it a little encouragement into the Goodness of God. Some of the fog from my depression is lifting now and I'm starting to feel better.  I've had a really hard time, personally, for the last seven months, and the divorce still isn't final.  I think it is nearing being final now though, and I hope I will continue to get clarity from this fog. Stenciled Burlap Pillow

I just have to share my no sew pillow project.  I had some burlap fabric in my fabric stash, and decided I would use it to cover a pillow.  First, I found an old pillow I no longer use.  I spread the burlap out on the floor and laid my pillow on it so I could cut the fabric big enough to cover it.  I was so intent on the project, I didn't make any pictures of the process. Once the burlap was cut, I folded in the sides about an inch, and glued it down with Tacky Glue, pressing it down several times with my fingers.  I did this all the way around the fabric, and laid it aside to dry over night.  The Tacky Glue dries clear. My next step was to determine how I could lap the fabric over the cushion in an envelope fashion.  I had tried to get my computer to print out a graphic that would show up on the burlap, but printer problems interfered with that plan, so I found the center, and stenciled it with the tree stencil I bought at Michael's. ...

Bar Stools Makeover

I'm still receiving therapy by keeping my hands busy, plus today I ran quite a few errands.  It's been a crying day for me today.  Just so much to worry about.  It seems like sometimes everything is just messed up, and there's nothing we can do to fix any of it.   Night before last, I painted the bar stools.  I've had them since 2000, and they were nice, but I was just in the mood to paint them!!  The form of the stools had a textured bronze color, the seats were beige with the fleur de lis design, and the wood across the back was brown.  Well, needless to say, they got their own coat of chalk paint in white, the seats covered in blue and white, and the boards across the back are blue.  I have the fabric to make matching placemats and napkins, but today was not the day to try to sew, for me.  I'm just too nervous.  In fact, I didn't do anything creative today except switch out the curtains in the powder room that I only made and p...
