My husband had to get up really early this morning for a doctor's appointment near Atlanta, so I got up early as well.  I changed the bed, got the laundry started, and took off to the Good Will.  Tuesday's are Senior Discount Day of 25%. They didn't have a whole lot on the shelves I usually go to first, but I found some neat items. I found this whimsical picture that I could not resist. If I had this in a huge print and frame, it would go above my fireplace!  I just love this and it seems like I've seen larger copies.  It was either 99c of 77c minus the discount. Another item that I was thrilled to find was this rug that ended up costing around $8.00.  The colors and design work perfectly on the screened porch. If you read my last post, you know we have been downsizing at the lake home. If you haven't read that post, you can see it here . I found some Waverly Chalk Paint at Wal Mart, and gave the very old french provincial night stand a makeover.  I have wanted to do this for a long time, but was afraid that the finish on the furniture wouldn't be easy to paint.  Thankfully, I saw on someone's blog that it could be done very easily using chalk paint.  It was very simple, no sanding or priming, just painting. The colors I chose are, White and Moss. Here is a before picture of the night stand. before You can see that it really showed its age. The front was especially yellowed. First, I simply painted the whole piece with the White Chalk Paint, brushing on the paint on the front, and rolling it on the top and sides.  I also painted the drawer handles white. The Moss paint was a little darker than I wanted, so I mixed white with it until I had the color I wanted...

Our powder room is on the left as you come into the foyer, so I try to keep it looking neat and clean all the time.  I found this sweet sign several years ago at a consignment shop, and have really enjoyed it.  It hangs on the door to the powder room. I recently bought this picture which ended up in the powder room.   A reader told me it is an old Home Interiors picture.  I like the shape of the frame, but not the color so much.  I decided to paint the outer part of the frame in ASCP, Louis Blue because I have trimmed a table in the room in that color.   I taped off the frame between the green and white parts with painter's tape. Next I painted it in Louis Blue. Next,  I distressed it with a sanding block so that some of the green would show. The cold wintery weather has really dampened my creative spirit.  All I've wanted to do is sit in the family room with the logs on and keep warm.  FINALLY, today the sun is out, the sky is blue, and I felt like doing a little project.  I've had this tray for a couple of years, bought at consignment, and have used it in so many ways.  Here is the original look. Gray (kinda like I've been feeling)! I carried the tray filled with other items that needed a touch of white, and went to the basement to my craft table. I didn't completely cover the gray, just did my usual dry brush, hit it with a little Annie Sloan Dark Wax, and let it dry.  Then I sanded in a few spots with a sanding block.  This is the new look. The gray can still be seen in spots, but it is lighter and brighter.  This was very easy. I've had this display on the wall for a long time.
