Sharing Shadymont, My Mountain Cottage

My MIL's little jelly cupboard is all ready for Christmas.  I removed everything, and brought in a few holiday items.  I love decorating this cupboard.  The red painted back is so conducive to Chistmas decor. A snow family is perched on top.  These have been around for a while.  Especially the one in the center.   I love the red candy dish on the upper shelf. My husband had it before we married.  I found a holly green one at Habitat that I really wanted, but the price was way too much!   After a mishap that broke out the glass in one of the doors, I removed the other one and replaced both with chicken wire.  Like that even better.  Nothing inside is new.  I've had the Old World Santas for years.  It's one piece, and folds up.  The 3 little angels were a gift from my daughter. The red box was bought at a consignment shopas wer the Ball jars. I made a Christmas arrangement for the table with floral items from the Dollar Tree.  

You probably don't recall my post some time ago on this little wooden box.  It was hand made by a friend for my late husband to store his 8-track tapes in.   Now that tells you how old I am getting.  :)  Anyway, I ran across it some months ago cleaning out the basement, and saw it as an opportunity to paint and decorate.  I used ASCP Olde White, ASCP Dark Wax, and took it from a plain brown roughly made box, to one of my favorite treasures.  I added some french script paper inside the lid, and of course french labels from Graphics Fairy to the front, and it has held a place of prominence ever since.   After making a table arrangement for the sun room, I used the left over DT flowers to decorate my sweet box for Christmas.  I just bunched the stems together that were left over, wrapped an old doily around them, put a small rubber band around it all, and plopped it in my box.  Here it is!! I have decorated the wall you are facing when coming in the front door in many ways.  Today I am sharing what I did for this year.  I don't "plan" how I'm going to decorate, I just start bringing out the decorations, and let my imagination do the rest.  That's probably why I move things around so much.   I started out by draping a quilted wall hanging over my old table that sits here.  The quilt was a gift from my brother in law and his wife a number of years ago. This wonderful nativity, a gift from my daughter and grandson is always great to use.  It is one piece, and is so heavy.  I just love having it out to enjoy. I had two small wreaths I had not used, and part of a spool of this green and red mesh, so I quickly made not one wreath, but two, and hung them both above the table. LOVE IT!! Today I'm sharing my mantel for this year.  Simple!!  I generally use lighted garland, but this year I wanted to continue with the chippy gate I've used for Fall.  I already had everything I'm using, so this is not only a simple look, it didn't cost a penny!   Sharing some of my snow folks. Now, "the chippy gate": The little planter section on the gate, allows for all kinds of goodies to be placed inside. This sign from Dollar General happened to be the perfect width for the gate, and already had the twine to hang it with.  Worked out perfectly! What do you think!  I think it works together well! Simple uncluttered look. You'll notice a Snow Man theme as I reveal more of my decor.  Not exactly planned, but I knew I wanted to use them, so I just played it by ear. Do you remember the beautiful Festive Holly (Nikko/Japan) dinnerware I bought last year at the consignment sale I helped my daughter with?  I researched on Replacements.com, and they would have cost $419.50 if I'd bought them a piece at the time (doesn't include shipping).  I got all this for $19.50!!  Probably my best bargain EVAH!!  Not even a single chip! Last year, I used gold chargers.  This year I'm using silver.  They are the only new item on this table, and were 98 cents each at Wal Mart. I could hardly wait to get them out again this year. Aren't they pretty?? This table cloth was bought at the same consignment sale for $4 - $5.  I just draped it over the drop cloth table cloth on the table, since it's only 52" x 70". A perfect cloth with the dishes, don't you think? I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving!  We sure did.  My daughter and her family ate with us yesterday, and we at with them today.  She lives nearby so that makes it so much easier. I have been busy decorating for Christmas.  I've done all I plan, except for the tree.  We use a small tree now, and I'll probably get it up tomorrow.  I'll be sharing everything for the next several days (maybe weeks)! I was anxious to decorate the old sewing machine drawer I bought recently at Queen of Hearts.  It sits on the bookcase in the dining room.  I removed the fall decor, and added 2 large styro foam snowflakes, a garland of red beads, two bunches of silver grapes, some holly and pine cones, and a Christmas card from last year.  I love the way it turned out.  The door I distressed stands behind the bookcase.  I added some burgundy ribbon to the burlap wreath, and hung this little snow man stocking.
