Sharing Shadymont, My Mountain Cottage

Ever since I saw the pumpkins made from clothes dryer venting hose, I have wanted to make one.  It just so happened that we had some leftover vent hose in the basement, and while I was down there yesterday, I cut off a piece, taped the ends together with masking tape, and spray painted it white.  I let it dry over night.  This morning I brought it up and finished it.  This project is another freebie, because I had everything needed to complete it. I wrapped a piece of cardboard tube from wrapping paper with jute string for the stem.  Then all I had to do was stick the little sprig of orange and green in beside the stem, tie a piece of rust raffia on it, and it was done! This is a simple project, and only takes a few minutes. Once complete, I changed the coffee table vignette to include it. I placed everything in a consignment store tray I bought several years ago.  I was already using the acorns and flower arrangement on the coffee table. ...

I have noticed a few leaves starting to change color, so that must mean I can dress my home in the rich colors of fall.   I started decorating the dining room on Saturday afternoon, and have already tweaked it because I found a lovely new fall tablecloth.  I'll show you both options.  I am mostly using items I already had.  At first I simply used two placemats from Pier 1 as a runner on the drop cloth table cloth.  I added a fall bouquet, leaf dish, and a wire pumpkin to the box. I used two fabric pumpkins, a gold colored pedestal and some Kirkland's acorns and called it done.

Dining Room I decided to use the bird fabric for a runner rather than a wall hanging.  Here it grounds the tiered stand laden with autumn pumpkins, stems, and corn.  This arrangement sits on a tall hand made/painted stool.  The pottery depicts southwestern scenes.  The colors blend in with the other fall decor.  The side table is decked out for fall. The runner is from WM.  I've had it for several years.  It depicts a scene of people harvesting.  It includes pumpkins, acorns, leaves, etc.  It reverses to solid green, so I can use it at Christmas also. Dinner plate is a Gibson also from WM, $1.50 each.  The salad plates are a recent Ross purchase at 4/$5.99. Candles were on clearance at Target, garland from DT at $1.00  This is the top of my grandmother's pie safe where I have a rooster vignette.  I'll feature the pie safe in a later post.  This is a small cabinet where I store candles and candle holders.
