Adding Bling to a Wreath

I made this wreath, several years ago, and used it as my Christmas, then my winter wreath. At some point, I had added some cobalt blue geo mesh to the wreath.  I am using it on my front door this year, and today, I decided to add a little more embellishments to it.  I picked up some blue ornaments and picks at Family Dollar for $5.00. I love the way it looks now, and I think I can use it the entire Winter season. I like the geo mesh wreaths, but I don't make mine the way most people do.  I just put it on the wreath form as I want it, and don't use a particular way to do it. Two of the picks I bought for the wreath have jingle bells and berries on them adding more interest.  I tied 2 bunches of 3 ornaments together to make a bigger impact. The wreath has blue, white geo mesh, along with silver and gold.  I'm liking this combo, and was thinking how pretty a tree would look done in these colors. I think this may be the pre...

Tweaking Vignettes

Today, I am sharing lots of photos.  I've (of course) been moving things about (small things), back problems and bronchitis don't allow for doing a whole lot.  Bronchitis for five weeks takes the get up and go right out of you.  After my 4th injection yesterday, and my 8th different prescription, I hope I'm on the mend!! Anyway, on the rare occasion when I've had a little energy, I've rearranged a few vignettes around the house. I love decorating with birds and nests, and found this nest at Queen of Hearts.  I added my blue bird from Michael's to the old sewing drawer, for the coffee table centerpiece in the Family Room. An urn with faux hydrangeas sits on the hearth.  I've shown this picture before of the pot of hydrangeas.  The frame is an old window frame from my grandmother's house.  I had to cut the mat down about an inch on each side for it to fit. I love that it is in the family room where I can see it. I stained ...

A Few Favorites

I'm going to join in the party at The Polo House, Favorite Things on the First .  Come and join in the fun.  The theme is containers .   First up, my sewing drawer.  It's a favorite because I can change it to fit any occasion.  Right now it's decorated for Valentine's Day.   This is a favorite as well.  I refurbished this old wooden box that was originally used to hold 8-track tapes.  I painted it with chalk paint, lined the lid with pretty paper, and mod podged labels to the front.  Just like the drawer, it is decorated differently on a whim! Shiny containers are a beautiful addition to any table! This gate is a great piece to decorate too!  The metal box on the front is a great flower container. I can't forget the jelly cupboard. It contains other favorites. It's great fun to decorate! The arrangement below is a new favorite! Love milk glass, crystal, white dishes! This urn is a great favorit...

Thrifty Little Silver Plate

The other day I visited a thrift store I had been wanting to go to!  BIG DISAPPOINTMENT!! Nothing!!! Then I stopped by the Habitat Restore.  There was a green glass covered candy dish just like a red one I have.  It was $25.00!!!  They had the paper showing where one sold on EBay for $50.00.  I really wanted it to go with my red one, but that is more than I wanted to pay, so I left without it. Next I stopped at an old mill building where lots of vendors have antique booths.  The majority of the stuff there was over priced as well, but it was a lot of fun to go through the booths.  I did spend $4.50 there.  This is what I bought. Tarnished little silver dish Once it was clean I could read            LBC, Sixth Grade, 1954  Reed and Barton   It cleaned up pretty well.  I wonder who owned it, Sixth Grade, why would it have that engraved?  Was it a gift for finishin...

Dining Room Changes

Having tired of my winter table scape in the dining room, I decided to change it up!!     I was mostly tired of the drop cloth table cloth.  It was on through Christmas and then through January, plus I was tired of the table taking up so much room.  I decided to take the leaf out of it and make it smaller. BEFORE BEFORE Here are the changes. AFTER  No table cloth.  These placemats were on clearance at Pier I for less than a dollar each.  Took the pink roses out of the pitcher, but left it on the table.  Changed back to the white dishes.  Kept the white napkins.I'm using my silver on a Armatele tray as the center piece.  I added the little green bird from Michael's for a early touch of spring.  I bought the little white bowl at a consignment shop yesterday for $5.00.  I love the shape of it.  I really like having the table without the leaf.  I'm loving this change! I'm dropping by Marty's for her ...
