The other day I visited a thrift store I had been wanting to go to! BIG DISAPPOINTMENT!! Nothing!!!
Then I stopped by the Habitat Restore. There was a green glass covered candy dish just like a red one I have. It was $25.00!!! They had the paper showing where one sold on EBay for $50.00. I really wanted it to go with my red one, but that is more than I wanted to pay, so I left without it.
Next I stopped at an old mill building where lots of vendors have antique booths. The majority of the stuff there was over priced as well, but it was a lot of fun to go through the booths. I did spend $4.50 there. This is what I bought.
It cleaned up pretty well. I wonder who owned it, Sixth Grade, why would it have that engraved? Was it a gift for finishing Sixth Grade? Who would want a silver dish in 6th grade? Was it a gift from LBC to a 6th grade teacher? 1954..... It's just 2 years younger than I am! So it's getting old, it's been around more than 1/2 a century! LOTS of questions about this little dish.

Tarnished little silver dish |
Once it was clean I could read LBC, Sixth Grade, 1954 Reed and Barton |

Love your silver dish and it looks wonderful on the shelf. Don't you wonder when you see something carved like that. So many questions. It cleaned up beautifully. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteI really like your dish. Now I'm curious about the engraving. I can't imagine. Maybe a gift to a teacher.
ReplyDeleteThe thrifts have been pretty dismal lately I agree (and over priced also it seems). I love your little silver dish! I really like how you displayed it. Thanks for joining JFF! hugs, Linda
ReplyDeleteGreat tray Kathy, and a good price. As you say strange gift for a student, but seems right for the teacher.
ReplyDelete(1956 was a good year by the way - my birth year too!)
Now that is interesting! Such a pretty silver dish, and Reed and Barton no less. Maybe it was a commencment award for a sixth grade Sunday school teacher. IDK! Sure would be nice to know wouldn't it. Enjoy it!
ReplyDeletethanks for the nice comment on my lamps. I enjoyed popping over here. Love all the roosters!
ReplyDeleteOh I just love to see an old tarnished piece of silver and hen polish it and discover the beauty of it! This piece cleaned up so pretty!
ReplyDeleteThe silver dish cleaned up very nicely. I agree that it was quite possibly a gift to a teacher. Maybe Christmas or retirement.

Loving that silver! I can't resist silver anything when it's thrifty, tarnished, rusty, shiny---great post/great find!
