Sharing Shadymont, My Mountain Cottage

This year I've tried not to overdo the Fall decor.  My home is not one where everything is white, although I love looking at those.  With the focus on decorating more subtlety, here are a few photos where the color white is featured.  Here is the fireplace with the sun streaming in through the sky light. I kept the mantel decor very simple. I love the white pumpkins.  The one in front of the basket is a candle. Here I used a white wicker basket. Here the box I painted with ASCP Olde White is part of my fall decor. I later replaced the white flowers with a Fall candle ring. This is my favorite little nook! I believe by allowing these white objects to be the focal point of the vignettes, etc., my Fall decor has a more elegant, and subdued look.  I'm really happy with the results. I have noticed a few leaves starting to change color, so that must mean I can dress my home in the rich colors of fall.   I started decorating the dining room on Saturday afternoon, and have already tweaked it because I found a lovely new fall tablecloth.  I'll show you both options.  I am mostly using items I already had.  At first I simply used two placemats from Pier 1 as a runner on the drop cloth table cloth.  I added a fall bouquet, leaf dish, and a wire pumpkin to the box. I used two fabric pumpkins, a gold colored pedestal and some Kirkland's acorns and called it done.

Today I am sharing this little wooden box I bought at a consignment shop.  I gave ten dollars for it.  It has been decorated in a few different ways. This is how I first displayed it.  In the living room on the bookcase.

On Saturday, I went to a couple of yard sales and to a favorite antique/consignment shop.   Look what I bought for fifty cents each.  The tower corner shelf of course was a varnished dark pecan color.  I used my last smidgen of ASCP to give it a white coat, then sanded it in spots.  I left the blackboard as it was.  $1.00 bought me both these items, neither of which I needed.  (lol)  The shelves are heart shaped, so it will come in handy for valentine's decor. The shelf unit can be used on its side as well.  I actually like it better on its side.  I placed it on the back of the toilet in the master, and it makes a cute holder for extra tissue rolls.  It could also be used to hold books.   It's a versatile piece that I will use a lot. My husband and I have been working in the basement this weekend, as well as another evening this week.  We have sorted through almost everything in there and separated it into areas, for yard sale, Good Will donations, keep here, take to the Lake House, etc.  We have the entire center area clear of items, and soon hope to have much of what is left either donated or sold.  We are two tired people!  Up and down those stairs sooooo many times.  The good thing is, it is now in order, and in the process I cleaned out an area and set up a little table and shelves for my paint, and fun stuff! It doesn't look good enough to show you yet, but I will before too long.  We plan to have some more electrical outlets run and ceiling fans hung, as well as painting the concrete floors.  The area covers about 2600 feet, so if we wanted to spend the money, we could have a whole other house down there.  That's not going to happen!  We need the storage so that's ...
