I finally jumped on the "make your own slipcovers" bandwagon. Bloggers like Miss Mustard Seed, make it look so easy.  Well, it's not so easy for an "old" woman, especially if you lay your drop cloth on the floor to cut it, and you have to crawl around to pin, etc.  Wow, did I get tired. It would have been a better idea if I had watched the tutorial at MMS blog first.  Instead, I watched one I found on YouTube, and it wasn't nearly as thorough.  Altogether, I worked on slipcovers for the sofa and loveseat for 4 days!  It's a tedious process for me, as I am not a good seamstress.  I have basic knowledge only.  I did pretty good for the first time, I guess.  I keep taking tucks here and there, hoping to make them look better. I do like the lighter color in the family room.  Our furniture has seen better days, and we really need to purchase new, but I'm not ready to spend the money yet. I've had a wire wreath frame hanging in the basement craft area for quite some time.  I had bought one roll of white burlap ribbon 2 1/2" wide a while back on clearance in the fabric section at Wal Mart.  I decided I would use the two items to make a burlap wreath.  I've made several burlap wreaths using wider burlap, but I liked the look of the more narrow ribbon, and the ribbon being wired gives the wreath a much more "finished" appearance.  Of course, I had to purchase more ribbon as one roll only covered about 1/3 of the frame.  It took over 3 rolls to complete the wreath, so I'll be using this one alot.  Generally, I have far less money in the wreaths I make. I kept the Easter mantel very simple this year.  I kept my shutters up (love using them),  added 2 distressed Mason jars with babies breath, faux lillies and carnations. Next I added the old sewing drawer that I painted and distressed long ago, and two sweet bunnies from the Dollar Tree. I am really getting the mileage out of the shabby mason jars.  They are so much fun to decorate and use. These paper roses are from the $1.50 bin at Michaels.  Six of these in pastel colors are on each card.  Love this little girl bunny.  She's all decked out in her Easter bonnet. I like the light, airy look of the Easter mantel. Easter décor is out in our home. I'm using mostly items I have used before.  I do have a couple of new additions though, like this sweet little sheep. I found the larger sheep, and the butter dish the same time I bought the table for the powder room, here .  I spray painted this 2 tiered basket green.  It was originally black.  Little bunny in a cloche. This pink rabbit came from Wal Mart. Love these two little bunnies. This wreath (above) is an old one that I removed everything from, and hot glued plastic eggs and a peat flower pot on and added some pastel curly ribbon.  I am happy with how it turned out, and it cost nothing as I already had everything. After the wedding, I decided to use some of the shabby jars I had made for rehearsal dinner, to decorate the mantel for spring. I used flowers left from the rehearsal dinner and the wedding tables, to fill the jars. Pink roses and pink & white carnations, with babies breath.  So delicate. In a recent post, I showed you the sofa table I painted and moved to the dining room.   As we all know, when you move one thing, it causes a domino effect. I had placed an old crate in the powder room to hold a lamp, and extra tissue, etc., because I wanted the table that was in there for a night stand in my bedroom.  If you're lost, that's o.k. I was in a favorite consignment shop for some retail therapy, when I spotted this gorgeous little table on sale for $29.99.  I really, really tried to walk out without it, but if there is one thing I've learned, when I see something I really want, I will think about it until I go back and get it.  So....I just went ahead and bought it, (to save myself a trip back), and I love it!! It is a lovely distressed, aqua color, with a glass top, and is some type of metal!  I love the scrolls, and it adds a touch of elegance to the powder room.
