Sharing Shadymont, My Mountain Cottage

I hope you all had a fabulous Thanksgiving.  We sure did.  We went to my sister's in law and on Thanksgiving Day, to my daughter's.  My grandson and his wife were here and I enjoyed them tremendously!! Today, I'm sharing our Christmas Tree.  I saw it on display at Lowe's prior to Thanksgiving and actually bought the display.  Since it was already assembled and "fluffed", I went ahead and put it up and decorated it.  Here it is with mostly new ornaments from the Dollar Tree, where they had so many pretty ones this year.   This ornament is three dimensional on both sides.  So nice!!   This one is full of bling!!   Some came two to a set.  Love these two above! The angel wings came in pink, white, silver, gold.   I really like the new tree.  It's not that much larger than my other one, but the greenery is more realistic.  I plan to take my old one to the lake house....

I'm sharing some changes I made to my decor in the last couple days. First, I placed batting in the lanterns on the mantel, and redecorated them. I placed a snowman in the larger of the two lanterns. The smaller of the two holds a bird house ornament, and holly and berries. I removed the red ribbon from the garland, and made bows for the tops of the lanterns. I added the white reindeer.  The two large reindeer were moved to the top of the sofa table.   I brought this antique egg basket into the dining room, and filled it with a Christmas items. The holly motif Christmas table cloth on the back of this chair came from Good Will.   Below is my other Good Will item for that day....the sweet cow!  I absolutely could not leave it in the store.  I love it! I recently posted about moving a sofa table to the living room behind the sofa. (here)  It made a great spot for Christmas decor and nothing says Christmas like red and green. First, I chose a red and white runner I made some time ago. On top of that I placed a flocked spray I bought at consignment a few years ago.  The spray has huge pine cones, and is so pretty. To complete the vignette, I added a books and a snow globe, along with a lantern gifted to me by Oriental Trading.  This one has Christmas tree cutouts in the sides.  You can't see them very well but there are two white, reindeer ornaments within the greenery. I later added red fairy lights to the lantern and the spray.  It's a great spot of focus when entering the front door. If you look closely, you can see the reindeer in this shot. Rustic woodland decor was my choice this year for the Christmas mantel.  I found these adorable reindeer at Big Lots, and feel in love with them! Aren't they pretty!!! These shutters that I've used for a long time, got a coat of red paint.  The wreaths hanging on them were consignment finds. I brought out the birch candles from last year. The burlap wreath, I made to use in my fall decor.  I added a string of wooden beads through it for a pop of red.  The sign is one I did the other day from a scrap of baseboard.  I painted it red, free handed "Merry", stenciled "Christmas", then sanded it well for an aged look. (Candle stands, consignment)   I moved the sign to the book case, so here is the mantel without it. Yesterday I awoke in the mood to 'tweak' my Christmas decor.  You see, I had declared myself "through"!!  When I said that, my husband laughed and said he knew that wasn't true, that I would keep decorating.  As is often the case, he was right.  I didn't put more decor out (not much, anyway), but started re-doing what I had already done.  I'm happy to report that it does look better. I'll show you some of my changes. I had originally set up a nativity set on the entry table, with my shutters, and burlap as the barn roof. It was o.k., but it didn't look like I wanted. So, I switched it out, and did this: I flipped the shutters around to the white side, moved my favorite candlestick to it, added a red candle, white ribbon, and ornament that reads "Welcome Friends", and added trees, as well as the Christmas table cloth.
