Tweaking the Christmas Decor

I'm sharing some changes I made to my decor in the last couple days.

First, I placed batting in the lanterns on the mantel, and redecorated them.

I placed a snowman in the larger of the two lanterns.

The smaller of the two holds a bird house ornament, and holly and berries.

I removed the red ribbon from the garland, and made bows for the tops of the lanterns.

I added the white reindeer.

The two large reindeer were moved to the top of the sofa table.

I brought this antique egg basket into the dining room, and filled it with a Christmas items.

The holly motif Christmas table cloth on the back of this chair came from Good Will.

Below is my other Good Will item for that day....the sweet cow! I absolutely could not leave it in the store. I love it!

Blogging Again From My Mountain Cottage, Shadymont

After a much needed rest, I'm back with a new blog name and a few slight changes, like the template, and the content will vary and not always be home decor, though that is my niche, and I will continue to have it frequently. But I want to use my blog to also give those who may read it a little encouragement into the Goodness of God. Some of the fog from my depression is lifting now and I'm starting to feel better. I've had a really hard time, personally, for the last seven months, and the divorce still isn't final. I think it is nearing being final now though, and I hope I will continue to get clarity from this fog. I have a story to tell regarding other matters, but I still am not able to talk about it quite yet. But when I say I've been through the fire, or maybe the pits of hell, just believe me. I now understand the meaning of Never say "Never"! Things can happen to us when we are vulernable that we think would never happen. ...

Stenciled Burlap Pillow

I just have to share my no sew pillow project. I had some burlap fabric in my fabric stash, and decided I would use it to cover a pillow. First, I found an old pillow I no longer use. I spread the burlap out on the floor and laid my pillow on it so I could cut the fabric big enough to cover it. I was so intent on the project, I didn't make any pictures of the process. Once the burlap was cut, I folded in the sides about an inch, and glued it down with Tacky Glue, pressing it down several times with my fingers. I did this all the way around the fabric, and laid it aside to dry over night. The Tacky Glue dries clear. My next step was to determine how I could lap the fabric over the cushion in an envelope fashion. I had tried to get my computer to print out a graphic that would show up on the burlap, but printer problems interfered with that plan, so I found the center, and stenciled it with the tree stencil I bought at Michael's. ...

Thrifty Bookcase Makeover

About a year ago, I was working on a photo gallery area at the lake home. There is an area about 7x7 between the living room, and the hall bath. I bought a really inexpensive ($20.00) bookcase to use there to hold family photos. I hurriedly placed photos on it, and didn't think much about it. The last time we were at the lake, I was sitting there looking at how badly it looked, wondering what I could do to spruce it up a little. It had all colors/types of picture frames -red, pink floral, wood, brass, you name it! I remembered seeing adhesive shelf liner at the Dollar General the day before. So I made a quick trip back there, and bought one 9 ft. roll for less than $3.00. I know this is not an original idea and has been done by lots of people, but I wanted to show you anyway.
