Farm House Style Wasn't Always Pretty!

WARNING: Not my typical post, lots of photos, so get comfy.  I do think you will enjoy this trip down memory lane with me.  :) FARM HOUSE STYLE WASN'T ALWAYS PRETTY, FROM A GIRL WHO LIVED IT!!! When we say farm house style, today, our minds conjure up a gorgeous home complete with wrap around porches, lovely decorative items, such as antique scales, farm house sinks, open shelving painted all white, with neatly styled matching dish ware, and some brightly colored collection, thrown in for a pop of color! Having grown up in a farm house, I'm here to tell you in the fifties and sixties, that is not what they looked like! At least, ours didn't!! Back then, the farm house was very utilitarian.  No gorgeous decorative pieces on pretty white shelves. Shelves were usually rough wood, some full of splinters! We raised chickens for a time, 3 poultry houses dotted the property; at one time Daddy had the bright idea to start a hog farm.  I know the neighbors loved that!  We

Favorite Projects, 2015

My favorite project for 2015 was getting the house painted, including the screened porch makeover!  That part is my favorite.  Here's a little reminder. BEFORE:  Mis matched furniture. AFTER:  Matching furniture, new table, new pillows. I had all the mismatched furniture painted the same color, and purchased new cushions.  I even painted the lamp!! I purchased the small red tables at Lowe's. They matched the floor perfectly.  We are loving the darker color on the house and floor. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ FAVORITE PURCHASE, 2015 My favorite purchase was ( of course) , the hall tree I purchased for $89.00!! Starting a Snow Village Collection

After seeing all the gorgeous snow villages on Pinterest, I've decided to get together a collection of items to make one.  I looked online and on Ebay, and the houses and accessories are EXPENSIVE!!  So I'll be getting mine a piece at the time at Good Will, and consignment shops. I had noticed that our GW had a few pieces the other day, so this morning I went to see if they still had them.  I found several pieces that will work for now.  I brought them home and washed them, and set up a small village on the bookcase. The church was $3.93, and the other pieces ranged from 99 cents to $1.40.  I had bought the trees and the two small glitter houses at Wal Mart earlier.  The church is lighted, and I placed flameless tea lights in the others, and placed a strand of blinking lights underneath the batting I used as snow.  I'm thrilled with the start I have on getting a village, and I've only spent around $15.00 for everything seen here.  Now I will be on the lookout and p
