Starting a Snow Village Collection

After seeing all the gorgeous snow villages on Pinterest, I've decided to get together a collection of items to make one. I looked online and on Ebay, and the houses and accessories are EXPENSIVE!! So I'll be getting mine a piece at the time at Good Will, and consignment shops. I had noticed that our GW had a few pieces the other day, so this morning I went to see if they still had them. I found several pieces that will work for now. I brought them home and washed them, and set up a small village on the bookcase.

The church was $3.93, and the other pieces ranged from 99 cents to $1.40. I had bought the trees and the two small glitter houses at Wal Mart earlier. The church is lighted, and I placed flameless tea lights in the others, and placed a strand of blinking lights underneath the batting I used as snow. I'm thrilled with the start I have on getting a village, and I've only spent around $15.00 for everything seen here. Now I will be on the lookout and pick up pieces when I see them at good prices.

On a side note, I want to share this lovely bowl I found yesterday at a consignment shop.

I may keep it out through the winter. I really like the wintry scene on it.

Blogging Again From My Mountain Cottage, Shadymont

After a much needed rest, I'm back with a new blog name and a few slight changes, like the template, and the content will vary and not always be home decor, though that is my niche, and I will continue to have it frequently. But I want to use my blog to also give those who may read it a little encouragement into the Goodness of God. Some of the fog from my depression is lifting now and I'm starting to feel better. I've had a really hard time, personally, for the last seven months, and the divorce still isn't final. I think it is nearing being final now though, and I hope I will continue to get clarity from this fog. I have a story to tell regarding other matters, but I still am not able to talk about it quite yet. But when I say I've been through the fire, or maybe the pits of hell, just believe me. I now understand the meaning of Never say "Never"! Things can happen to us when we are vulernable that we think would never happen. ...

Linens & Things

I love finding tablecloths, runners, napkins, and other linens when I am out thrifting. Whether it be at consignment shops, GW, or yard sales, I will usually snap up a pretty linen if it doesn't have a lot of stains. I will show you some of my favorites. I found several pieces embroideried with this design at a favorite consignment shop. This blue runner (reversible to stripes), found on consignment. This is one of the nicer quality tablecloths I have found, $4.00 at a thrift store. This cloth was around $10.00 on consignment. This runner is also reversible to polka dots, and was a consignment find. This pink and white gingham is perfect in the sun room, and is a consignment find also. This is the most valuable table cloth I have found, and it was $2.00 at a nearby yard sale. It is a vintage Wielunder. They sell on ebay for 30 - 90 dollars. Mine is in pristine condition! Stenciled Burlap Pillow

I just have to share my no sew pillow project. I had some burlap fabric in my fabric stash, and decided I would use it to cover a pillow. First, I found an old pillow I no longer use. I spread the burlap out on the floor and laid my pillow on it so I could cut the fabric big enough to cover it. I was so intent on the project, I didn't make any pictures of the process. Once the burlap was cut, I folded in the sides about an inch, and glued it down with Tacky Glue, pressing it down several times with my fingers. I did this all the way around the fabric, and laid it aside to dry over night. The Tacky Glue dries clear. My next step was to determine how I could lap the fabric over the cushion in an envelope fashion. I had tried to get my computer to print out a graphic that would show up on the burlap, but printer problems interfered with that plan, so I found the center, and stenciled it with the tree stencil I bought at Michael's. ...
