I'm going to join in the party at The Polo House, Favorite Things on the First .  Come and join in the fun.  The theme is containers .   First up, my sewing drawer.  It's a favorite because I can change it to fit any occasion.  Right now it's decorated for Valentine's Day.   This is a favorite as well.  I refurbished this old wooden box that was originally used to hold 8-track tapes.  I painted it with chalk paint, lined the lid with pretty paper, and mod podged labels to the front.  Just like the drawer, it is decorated differently on a whim! Shiny containers are a beautiful addition to any table! This gate is a great piece to decorate too!  The metal box on the front is a great flower container. I can't forget the jelly cupboard. Today, I want to share a few vintage items with you.  This Coca-cola tin tray belonged to my husband's grandmother.  We believe it is really old.  His grandmother gave it to his mother prior to her death many years ago.  These trays were reproduced in 1973.  From my research, these trays were used to serve drinks on in old soda shops and such.  This one is in excellent condition.    I love the colors.  I think I'll be on the lookout for others.  There are some really pretty ones available on ebay.   Of course I created a vignette using it.  It's on top of my corner cabinet in the breakfast room.   These saltine boxes were popular in 1969.   I've shown the Gordon's jar before, as well as the old wooden box. This corner hutch holds all my glass dishes.  Most of these are quite old. Even some old vintage silverware resides in the hutch. Y'all know there are hens...

My MIL's little jelly cupboard is all ready for Christmas.  I removed everything, and brought in a few holiday items.  I love decorating this cupboard.  The red painted back is so conducive to Chistmas decor. A snow family is perched on top.  These have been around for a while.  Especially the one in the center.   I love the red candy dish on the upper shelf. My husband had it before we married.  I found a holly green one at Habitat that I really wanted, but the price was way too much!   After a mishap that broke out the glass in one of the doors, I removed the other one and replaced both with chicken wire.  Like that even better.  Nothing inside is new.  I've had the Old World Santas for years.  It's one piece, and folds up.  The 3 little angels were a gift from my daughter. While visiting a nearby antique mall yesterday, I came upon this small picnic type basket, and at $6.00, it found its way home with me.  I knew when I saw it that it would be great in vignettes. I love the closures and the handle.  The blue color will work for now as well.  I have filled the jelly cupboard with red/white/blue items, so this will go on the top. What to use in the vignette? I shopped the house, and came up with some items. In keeping with the red/white/blue theme, I added items with those colors, then brought in a touch of yellow.  Of course a couple of my roosters had to be included.  They are a Target find.  The honeycomb yellow pitcher, and ice bucket were a consignment find.  I draped red and white kitchen towels into the basket to give it more punch.
