Sharing Shadymont, My Mountain Cottage

The décor at the lakehouse, if anything is even more English Country Cottage, than that at the mountain home. The master bedroom is a favorite.  I love the new quilt, (WM~BHG).  It was inexpensive, and has the perfect weight for this time of year.  Not too heavy. In the twin bed room, I chose turquoise bedding. I painted matching artwork for above each bed. The living room has a mixture of plaid and florals. We have lots of afghans that belonged to my MIL and my husband.  He had a neighbor that made them for him. I have a couple of hydrangeas that I'm drying.  I read that if you put them in water, then let the water evaporate they will be softer rather than so brittle.  So I'm trying that.  Aren't they a pretty color?  Today they are more of a purple color.  The queen size guest room carries on with the stripes and floral combination.  This room has a french furniture suite th...

Back to my series: Decorating with English Country Cottage Style My office recently received a face lift!  Boy, did it ever need one! Until I got that done, it was my least favorite room, and one, I just wanted to close off when guests came.  Now I enjoy the colors and the arrangement so much more.  I sell on ebay, and this is a perfect spot for me to keep up with everything. AFTER See how horrible it was??  I had really done a number on these walls, and the paint was so faded near the ceiling from the transom window that let all the evening sun come pouring in. BEFORE You might remember that the husband and I put shelves in this cabinet (left side).  It had previously been storage for my late husband's gun collection.  The guns have been passed on to my grandson, so I wanted to make this cabinet more useful.  I think we succeeded!! Last time I showed you little areas in my house that are decorated in an English Country Cottage Style.  Today, I am showing you the living/family room. Living Room: First as you come in the door, you are met by a floral geo mesh wreath. You will step into the foyer onto an English style area rug with roses, in a cameo in the center. Lookeing straight ahead, you will see the fireplace, and the family room. Items are layered on the mantel, with an old picture being framed with an old window frame from my Grandmother's home built in the mid-1800's. I love English Country Cottage Style, all the roses, pictures, quilts, etc.  As I look around my home, both inside and out, I see touches of it, here and there. For example, I love using doilies, faux flowers, quilts, lots of tables, floral fabrics, and many other items that I consider to have an English  Country Cottage look.  So today, I am sharing various ways I've incorporated these items into my decorating style. This vignette sits atop a fern stand in the sunroom. This is my current centerpiece on the coffee table.  I updated this bamboo box, by painting it in certain areas, and lining the inside with a matching fabric.  It holds 2 bouquets of tulips, one lying in the box, and the other standing in an aqua ball jar. A burlap runner I made is underneath the centerpiece. On a table in the entryway, I have used a tablecloth in bold colors, 2 old sets of shutters, painted blue, and 2 vintage English looking plates, and a small lamp. ...
