English Country Cottage Style PART I

I love English Country Cottage Style, all the roses, pictures, quilts, etc. As I look around my home, both inside and out, I see touches of it, here and there. For example, I love using doilies, faux flowers, quilts, lots of tables, floral fabrics, and many other items that I consider to have an English Country Cottage look. So today, I am sharing various ways I've incorporated these items into my decorating style.

This vignette sits atop a fern stand in the sunroom.

This is my current centerpiece on the coffee table. I updated this bamboo box, by painting it in certain areas, and lining the inside with a matching fabric. It holds 2 bouquets of tulips, one lying in the box, and the other standing in an aqua ball jar.

A burlap runner I made is underneath the centerpiece.

On a table in the entryway, I have used a tablecloth in bold colors, 2 old sets of shutters, painted blue, and 2 vintage English looking plates, and a small lamp. This is a favorite tablescape. At least it must be, because it has stayed like this for close to a month.

Here you see a floral quilted runner in pastels, topped with tulips in a ball jar, an aqua jar filled with old silverware, and a crystal cake stand, and 2 floral hankies belonging to my Mom.

Here is a bouquet of red roses I made and wrapped with a white doily and green ribbon. Another of my favorites.

Again, a small turquoise table with an old basket filled with floral stems.

Here I have used another rosy quilted runner atop a green table.

On a recent thrifting trip I found this English garden shower curtain for only $5.99. It mingles well with the green towel tied with burlap, and the burgundy floral arrangement. The arrangement sits on a plant stand with 4 swiveling shelves.

This fabulous awning striped fabric was only $3.00.

What sings English more than blue/white dishes and pink roses! This picture is at the lakehouse.

Outdoor setting on front porch at lakehouse. I freshened the basket of flowers up with some acrylic paint.

Here a faux plant adds a punch of color to the porch.

A vintage embroideried tea cloth looks pretty on the green oval table.

Here I layered a quilted rose runner on top of the pink gingham round tablecloth, which gives this round table a comfortable vibe.

Lace curtains hang on the french door to the master suite.

The old pie safe reminds me of long ago when it stood in my Grandmother and then my mother's homes.

Here in the breakfast area, I have a combination of woods, some painted, and some not. I've carried that throughout the house.

Quilts add comfort to any room.

Most of our beds now sport quilts, and bright colored pillow shams.

This floral pillow goes well in the sunroom.

I use old vintage plates to decorate the mantel, and other areas.

My style is probably considered by most to be eclectic, but I love having touches of English Country Cottage Style throughout.

Blogging Again From My Mountain Cottage, Shadymont

After a much needed rest, I'm back with a new blog name and a few slight changes, like the template, and the content will vary and not always be home decor, though that is my niche, and I will continue to have it frequently. But I want to use my blog to also give those who may read it a little encouragement into the Goodness of God. Some of the fog from my depression is lifting now and I'm starting to feel better. I've had a really hard time, personally, for the last seven months, and the divorce still isn't final. I think it is nearing being final now though, and I hope I will continue to get clarity from this fog. I have a story to tell regarding other matters, but I still am not able to talk about it quite yet. But when I say I've been through the fire, or maybe the pits of hell, just believe me. I now understand the meaning of Never say "Never"! Things can happen to us when we are vulernable that we think would never happen. ...

Stenciled Burlap Pillow

I just have to share my no sew pillow project. I had some burlap fabric in my fabric stash, and decided I would use it to cover a pillow. First, I found an old pillow I no longer use. I spread the burlap out on the floor and laid my pillow on it so I could cut the fabric big enough to cover it. I was so intent on the project, I didn't make any pictures of the process. Once the burlap was cut, I folded in the sides about an inch, and glued it down with Tacky Glue, pressing it down several times with my fingers. I did this all the way around the fabric, and laid it aside to dry over night. The Tacky Glue dries clear. My next step was to determine how I could lap the fabric over the cushion in an envelope fashion. I had tried to get my computer to print out a graphic that would show up on the burlap, but printer problems interfered with that plan, so I found the center, and stenciled it with the tree stencil I bought at Michael's. ...

Bar Stools Makeover

I'm still receiving therapy by keeping my hands busy, plus today I ran quite a few errands. It's been a crying day for me today. Just so much to worry about. It seems like sometimes everything is just messed up, and there's nothing we can do to fix any of it. Night before last, I painted the bar stools. I've had them since 2000, and they were nice, but I was just in the mood to paint them!! The form of the stools had a textured bronze color, the seats were beige with the fleur de lis design, and the wood across the back was brown. Well, needless to say, they got their own coat of chalk paint in white, the seats covered in blue and white, and the boards across the back are blue. I have the fabric to make matching placemats and napkins, but today was not the day to try to sew, for me. I'm just too nervous.
