Sharing Shadymont, My Mountain Cottage

I do love my rooster lamp with the toile shade.  You've seen it several times.  I decided to make a burlap cover for the shade.  First I took the shade off and traced around each section, across the length, and the width, onto paper.  I ended up with these two sizes of paper.  I folded the burlap and pinned the pattern onto it. and cut about an extra inch all the way around the pattern.  However, since I have finished this project, if I should do this again, I will add at least 2 inches all the way around. I stitched the pieces together, and placed the cover over the lamp.  As you can see, even with a piece of ribbon "pinned" on to the bottom, it was still a little small.   Light bulb moment!  I remembered all the burlap runners seen in blog land with the ruffles on the ends.   So this afternoon, I sewed a piece of eyelet lace all the way around the bottom, and used stitch witchery to attach a white grosgrain ribbon around the top. I am by no means a seamstress. 

You've seen my pie cupboard that belonged to my parents.  I've been seeing several of you putting paper, fabric, etc., inside the cabinets on the back wall.  I found this pretty scrapbook paper at JoAnn's the other day, and decided to see what it would look like inside the cupboard. I taped it in with double sided tape that way it can be easily removed if I decide I don't like it. It is a beige paper with cursive handwriting on it.   I filled it with white and green items All these items are thrifty finds , GW, consignment, etc. I think I'll leave it this way for a while.  I love the green and white together. We finally have a JoAnn's Fabrics in the town where I work.  I was in there yesterday looking for ribbon and found this lovely remnant.  I'm probably going to make a cushion cover from it soon, but I laid it on the table so I could show you what it looks like.  I just love it and for less than $5.00, it was a great bargain.   Isn't it gorgeous?   I love the fall colors, and the birds are just beautiful. I haven't bought very much lately that I felt was a super bargain. But I have found  a few things that I haven't shared . I bought 8 of these napkins for $10.00 last week.  I love the colors and they add just a hint of "fall" to the table. I found this 2 tier white, metal stand at the same shop for $20.00.  It's really sturdy and has lots of possibilities.  Ceramic pumpkins......leaf garland...... you see where this is going.  :) I think the grapes, napkins, and the rust color of the table cloth hint at fall.  The table cloth is a deep rust, not red as it looks in the other picture. I had to touch up a place or two on the bookcase I painted with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint, so while I had the paint out, I dry-painted this tray on the breakfast table. I had previously painted it a dark color, but like the white much better. Today I am sharing a collection of pitchers and a couple of teapots I have.  This pitcher and bowl sits in the guest room.   This crystal pitcher is a gift from friends.   This depression glass pitcher was my Grandmother's.   The yellow pitcher was a gift, and the fruit pitcher was a consignment shop purchase. The pitcher with the stripes belonged to my MIL.  I bought the white one with fretwork at Ross, and the green floral one was bought at a thrift shop. I bought the white cup with the raffia tie in the late 70's in a gift shop where I worked.  The writing says: "Love grows in a happy heart". Creamers  Not sure where I got the beige pitcher, maybe WalMart years ago.  The green one was a gift from a co-worker, and the yellow with grapes, I believe I bought at Good Will. This milk glass vase was a thrifty find.  The candle sticks were bought at a little shop in the mountains several years ago.  They were dark green, but recently got a coat of white spray paint.  This pedestal is from Ross or TJ Maxx.  The little bird came from a consignment shop. Vignette on burlap.   I've been moving everything around (AGAIN).  I painted and waxed this table last week with ASCP.  I really like the new look.  Someone suggested I put a less formal center piece on the table, and they were right.  This is much better. I don't usually decorate with a beach theme, even though I do like the look.  My daughter is a pro with it.  Her home is full of beach items.  I was noticing that the current vignette on the table in my sunroom has a somewhat beachy look.    I think its the combination of the chippy bench, metal basket, burlap, and turquoise items.  I really like the way it looks.   I am linking to Saturday Night Special over at Funky Junk Interiors .
