This week as I was in Good Will I found a tall, narrow skinny table.  It had seen better days, but was sturdy and around $8.00.  I used white chalk paint to paint it. Then at a consignment shop I found a set of tall shutters painted a dull pink. Even before that, I had bought a Duraflame heater that has the logs and looks like a small fireplace. I used all these pieces and this is the result. The outside of the heater doesn't get hot, and I wouldn't run it without being in the room. The shutters were such a perfect fit, they snapped between the legs. No screws, or nails anywhere!! I found these 4 plates to hang above the "mantel".  If you look closely you can see the aqua edge. I want a full size door to go behind this and hope I find one soon. So that's one way of making a mantel for a small heater.  Hope you have a lovely weekend!! Last week I showed how I have updated the guest room by rearranging the furniture, adding a vintage table updated with a little paint, and changing the window treatments.  Here is a quick reminder of the changes I made. There was one problem with my update!  I forgot to buy a matching window panel for the french door, and this white panel was just bugging me! BEFORE I have procrastinated all week on going back to Lowe's to get another window panel.  But this morning I went, (and a good thing) as they only had one left!! One , I tell you!  They had several left when I bought the first three.  So glad I went.   These panels only come in 84" length, so when I came home, I cut off the panel to a length of about 75".  Door panels are usually around 72" so 75" allowed for a hem for the bottom rod.  I simply hemmed across the edge folded it up a couple inches, and sewed across that.  This was about a 15 minute project w...

You may remember the bi-fold door (below) that I painted and waxed and placed in the corner of the dining room.  I had another smaller bi-fold door in the basement that needed a makeover too.   I mixed some gray paint with plaster of paris and water to make some chalk paint.  It has just a hint of gray. I painted the smaller with it, rubbed on some dark wax, stenciled a tree design (using the same stencil I've used on numerous projects), and our street address number on the door, and stood it on the front porch.  I placed it behind this turquoise table and added faux mums to the clay jack-o-lantern. Just an additional bit of fall decor for the porch. Recently I painted over an old bi-fold door with my recipe of white chalk paint.     You can see how white and "new" it looks here. Today I decided to "dirty it up, age it".  Below is the new look which I'm loving!!  I like the curve at the top of the panel and the wax accents it so well.  Five minutes, and it now looks just like I hoped. I used ASCP dark wax.  I simply brushed it on lightly in various places, and immediately wiped it off with an old towel. Here it is with fall accessories! I just love this door and I have another one in the basement a little smaller and its about to get a makeover too! Aged to Perfection!! When our home was built in 2000, there were two bi-fold type doors left in the basement.  They do not match.  I have always wanted to find a use for them, and thought about trying to find a third one and making a screen.  Recently I painted one of them with home made chalk paint (white).  I didn't do anything else to it.  I finally brought it upstairs and found a little nook for it.   I propped it behind a small table I had sitting in the corner of the dining room, added my recently made burlap wreath, and hung this tiny embroidered pillow on it. I'm thinking I will distress it and use some ASCP dark wax on it.  Another free project!   I also changed the centerpiece on the dining room table.  I recently bought this runner in its soft pastels.  The cake plate is a purchase from several years ago.   It echoes the blue and pink of the runner.
