Decorating with Red

If you have held a yard sale, you know how tired I am right now.  I got up at 5:40 AM this morning to go put signs at a  BUSY highway near my home, then several others marking the way to my basement.  I decided to have it inside because it was 104 here in N.GA today!  Whew!!  That is some hot weather.  The lawn has absolutely dried up.  We desperately need rain.  Anywhoo, I only decided yesterday that I would have a yard sale today.  Luckily, I had already boxed up things for a sale (when we organized the basement), so all I had to do was pull those boxes out, and lay things out for display, and price them.  I will continue the sale again tomorrow.  I could not believe how many people came!!!! And they bought too!!  I didn't advertise in the newspaper or anything.  My daughter did put it on the school system classifieds. Although this only goes to those who work for the system.  So my traffic was almost completely from my sign on the highway!  I got rid of sooooo much stuff!!  I

Cheery Cherry Tablescape

Today I am sharing the tablescape on the sunroom table. A setting for two using my cheery, cherry thrifty finds. I found this Festival dinnerware about a year or so ago at a consignment shop that is no longer in business.  I got a four place setting consisting of dinner plate, salad plate, serving bowls, glasses, cups/saucers, and salt/pepper for $10.00.  I decided I would use them now since they are red, white, and blue. I used white placemats, also from consignment shop.  The red napkins are from Wal Mart, and so versatile since I can use them for Valentine's, Christmas, and other seasons.  The smaller white napkin is something I made from a scrap of fabric from the clearance bin at Wal Mart.  The white furniture, and the bright light coming through the windows makes this colorful setting "pop"! The stainless is from a set of 40+ pieces that I bought at my daughter's consignment sale for $10.00.   The napkin rings were purchased at a yard sa

Come In and Sit a While

I don't think I have shared the front screened porch at the lake home.  We haven't purchased any new outdoor furniture, just making do with what we have. We had a swing hung when the porch was built, and that's my favorite spot.  The swing was built locally. I like the cup holders made into the arms of the swing. These are just regular stacking chairs. This is an old coffee table I painted white and decorated with recent yard sale finds.  That's a lazy susan underneath the table.  I need to sand and repaint it and use it inside. Nothing fancy, just a place to relax, have a cool drink, and look at the lake.  Come back anytime, and sit for a while!!  Please drop in at these great parties: Show and Tell  at My Romantic Home Feathered Nest  at French Country Cottage  Funky Junk Interiors for Saturday Nite Special Sunny Simple Sunday at Sunny Simple Life

A Tisket, A Tasket, What's This Little Basket?

I was looking in one of the storage buildings for a can of paint, and noticed this little basket hanging on the wall.  I am not sure what it was used for, but think it may have hung on the side of a sink.  What do you think?  If anyone knows, please tell me. It's just very unusual.  I don't know why I had never noticed it hanging there. But once I did, I had to bring it in and find a place for it. I moved it around to several areas deciding what to do with it. I like it like this.  This is in the guest room done up in pink.  I moved this little clock, the hydrangea flower pot, and setup a little vignette on the chest of drawers.  Then I added the purple roses, and a baby picture of my husband, that is just a card board type.  I think this makes for a little vintage looking arrangement. Cute, huh!! Joining in these parties White Wednesday at Faded Charm W ow Us Wednesday at Savvy Southern Style Transformation Thursday at the Shabby Creek Cot

Yard Sale and Other FInds

On Friday, we took the 6 hour drive to our home at Lake Seminole. We'll be here for a couple of weeks probably.  Then it's back home to go with my daughter to a conference for her new job. (She was promoted to Curriculum Director/Grades 6-12) for our school system. The conference will be at Jekyll Island, and will be a mini vacation for our little beach lover, Rheagan. There are few yard sales here at the lake, but I noticed a sign yesterday as we arrived, that there would be a "gigantic" one today.  So I headed out this morning to see what I could find.  It was a neat sale, held in a vacant home... vacant of people, full of stuff!!  Clothes filled three rooms, all sorted by size.  I didn't go through the clothing though, just the 'doo-dads'!  There were lots of dishes, books, dvd's, cd's etc.   Y'all know what a big spender I am.  I spent $3.00!!  Here's what came home with me. This cute floral arrangement was a dollar.  It has large

The Silent Actress, the Major and Grandmama Cherry

Today my post is taking a different direction.  I normally show you my latest projects or something I have changed in my home.  But today, I am showing some very old papers I came across some time ago and placed them in an extra scrap book I had, stuck it in the cabinet, and promptly forgot all about it.   The other night my grandson brought some momentos he kept from his trip to France this month, for the scrap book I have kept for him his entire life.  I opened the cabinet to remove some scrapbooking supplies and again saw the "extra" scrapbook.  I removed it to see what I had put in there, and re-discovered these old papers.  These were tucked away in a metal box of "important" papers that my MIL had.   They are from the thirties, forties, and fifties.  This is a rather long post, and plenty of pictures, so enjoy.
