Sharing Shadymont, My Mountain Cottage

WARNING: LONG POST, LOTS OF PHOTOS! How I turned my least favorite room into my MOST favorite: Here is my previously dark, yucky office.  I don't know what possessed me to put up the border.  It never stuck to the wall very well, and it was just ugly.  It stayed up 10 years or more, until a few weeks ago when I yanked it off the wall!  It left a mess on the walls.  The places where it stuck well, it stuck really well, so it left glue, and paper.  When I tried to get that off, I damaged the sheetrock!  Everything looked awful.  Most of you would have just repaired it yourself, and painted your room that color that has become your favorite!  I am not a good painter when it comes to large areas.  I leave that to the pros! Wow! I didn't realize how many projects I did in 2012.  Way too many to show them all, so I will just share the ones I like best!   This olden plant stand was dark brown wood, full of scratches and water marks.  Here it is with a coat of home made chalk paint, and a little distressing.  Now it's in the guest bath holding the necessities. I painted the bottom of my Mother's old Hoosier cabinet.  I don't have the top part of the cabinet, but I have really enjoyed using this!  It's in my mudroom. I added a frenchy label to this old box I found at a consignment shop, and filled it with blue Ball jars and other goodies. I painted the 8-track tape box below, and added mod podged frenchy labels to it. I painted the larger stool white and added a fleur de lis stencil to it. My late husband (J) loved guns.  Especially high powered ones.  I do not like them.  He left them to our grandson in his will, and our grandson is not a gun person either.  I had kept them inside a huge cabinet we had built in the nineties by the local trade school cabinet builders class.  J had the cabinet built to store the guns in one side, and left the other side for me to decorate. After he passed away, I realized that I did not like having those guns where everyone could see them.  The doors are glass on the cabinet.  I had inserted a tension rod with panels on it to hide the guns, but had never been happy with the look.  Recently it was just "bugging" me terribly.  So I found a safe place to hide the guns in the house, and set about revamping the cabinet.  I went to Lowes and priced shelving, brackets, the whole works, and knew that would be quite a bit of work for me (remember I was home alone), so I kept looking and found these ...
