WARNING: LONG POST, LOTS OF PHOTOS!

How I turned my least favorite room into my MOST favorite:

Here is my previously dark, yucky office.  I don't know what possessed me to put up the border.  It never stuck to the wall very well, and it was just ugly.  It stayed up 10 years or more, until a few weeks ago when I yanked it off the wall!  It left a mess on the walls.  The places where it stuck well, it stuck really well, so it left glue, and paper.  When I tried to get that off, I damaged the sheetrock!  Everything looked awful. 

Most of you would have just repaired it yourself, and painted your room that color that has become your favorite!  I am not a good painter when it comes to large areas.  I leave that to the pros! During the time we were waiting for the painter, I hung all sorts of stuff on the walls to try to cover up the mess I (and the border) had made.   You can see how I just slapped things on the walls (tapestry), small pictures in the corner, etc., just to cover some of the mess.  Thankfully, no one saw all this, except my husband and family.  It kept me from looking at the mess I'd made, until the painter could come.

Finally last week, the painter came, and in two days, he did some repair work in this room, and on the dining room crown molding which was pulling away from the ceiling, repaired some nail pops and a crack in the wall, and of course all my mess on the walls themselves.

See what I mean?  UGH!!!

Everything else: I already had.

I originally thought I would have to purchase a slip cover for the loveseat, until I decided to use the picture I already had.  The colors in the picture help the loveseat color to blend in.

My husband had asked that I get curtains that were long enough to hang above the transom, so I bought these 98" panels through Amazon, from Ikea.  I bought them cheaper through Amazon because I got free shipping that way.  I have about $40.00 in them, and love the way they hang.  They are 57" wide each.

I finally got to put everything back into the huge cabinet.  You will remember, we added the shelves to the left side.  You can see that post here.  We're loving the extra space for family mementos, books, and photos.

I had originally planned to hunt a picture for this room, but decided to see if I liked this one in here, and I did!!  I have had it for a long time.  It's from Kirkland's, and I bought it for $49.  It measures, 44" x 33".  It's the only thing I plan to have on these walls.  (It's so big, I had previously stored it behind a large dresser in the guest room).

I was so happy that it looked good in the room.  It saved me money, and takes up lots of space on the wall which I wanted since this is all I plan to hang on the walls.

I shopped the house for items to use in my new room.  This antique lamp belonged to my MIL.  This picture on the easel is a shot we took while traveling through Santa Fe, NM a few years ago.  I came across it while purging items from this room, matted and framed it.  It shows the long road in front of us, and yellow flowers in the forefront growing on the side of the road.

Oh, just look at these shiny doors!

 This chair is a long ago consignment buy.

The desk was purchased in 2000.  I've often thought about painting it, but am glad I didn't.  I am using the two sets of cubbies as part of my desk area, and centered the picture on the wall, rather than above the desk.  Using the cubbies has helped with hiding all the electrical cords usually hanging down from the back of a table like this.

This cubbie holds office supplies, the printer, computer router, etc.  I'm really liking this setup.

This rug was brought from the sunroom.  I still need to buy a rug for this room or the sunroom.  This one works well in here and the pink in the flowers of the picture bring out the pink in the rug. The rug previously in here doesn't look good in the sunroom, so I will look for something that will work in either of these rooms. The loveseat makes a twin bed, so this room does double duty.

I brought my twig arrangement in here because the metal vase is copper with patina.  (color of my room)  The twigs are from the yard, spray painted white.  I made the rosettes to hang from the twigs.
