According to legend, St. Valentine's day is celebrated in honor of St. valentine who was a priest serving during the third century in rome. the Emperor, claudius II had the idea that single men made better warriors than married men, so he outlawed marriage for young men. however, st. valentine defiled the law thinking it unfair. he would secretly perform marriage ceremonies for young lovers. when the emperor learned of this, he ordered him killed. what a sad legend!! Whether this is true or not, it makes for a good story. Even though Valentine's is only one day in mid-February, it gives me a good excuse to add a little red to my decor. Things feel a little blah right after Christmas when all the lights and colorful decor have been removed and stored away. My decor wasn't "blah" for long.
