Sharing Shadymont, My Mountain Cottage

We spent last week at the lake house, and on Saturday, I finally paid a visit to a couple of nice shops in our small town there.  The shop where I found my new treasure is called Magnolia Maven .  Cute shop, with lots of great vintage, antique, and some consignment items, and sweet owner. My treasure at $24.00 is this lovely vase!  When I saw it, I knew it would look beautiful on the hall tree. Isn't it pretty?  I just love the birds, and y'all know the spring look I have going on right now (see it here ), so this is a wonderful addition. I already had the tulips, greenery, and the "stick vines" so I filled the vase with those.  I changed the runner on the hall tree to the aqua one with pink flowers. I kept the olden lamp, added a picture of the husband and me on our wedding day, two aqua Michael's birds, and called it done. It reflects beautifully in the hall tree mirror. Sometimes I like to go through my photos to see various ways I have decorated for the seasons or holidays.  Here are some photos from previous Spring decor. Maybe you will get some ideas for ways to decorate your home for spring.  It really is just around the corner.  :)  Easter is March 27th, and the first day of spring is less than a month away.  Looking through my photos also reminds me of items I may have stored away, and might want to use this year. An easy spring craft is to buy peat pots, paint them with acrylic paint, stamp them, put a flower inside (like above).  It makes an adorable item for a vignette. Tulips and bunnies always signify spring. More birds, floral plates, and a succulent round out this display. Here ball jars, an insulator, and other items make a unique vignette on this side table. It looks like spring inside my house.  I'm enjoying using this 'olden' living room suite, in all its floral splendor!! It's so light and bright in the living area.  Here are some of the places where I see a bit of spring, and my favorite colors, pink and aqua. On the desk, now in the family room, I have the colors of spring. I've used lighter items on the gallery wall. I love this piece that my daughter gave me for an early birthday gift.  She found it at HL.  I won a sweet banner a couple of years ago from a blogger, and used parts of it for this spring-like banner hanging from the hooks. I'm still working to make my living room have more of a cottage style. Before my foot decided to get a fracture, I went to the grand re-opening of my favorite consignment shop.  They moved back to their original location which is much bigger.  Here's what I found and brought in to add to my cottage look. The plates on the mantel. They look good on the mantel, and after Valentine's, I will remove the hearts, and the mantel will carry us into Spring. I also found this small dish which I added to the desk beneath the gallery wall. Speaking of the gallery wall, I've been changing it up almost every day, hoping to hit on a final look.  I've moved pictures up and down, back and forth, and right now have all floral pictures there. The last time I showed you the wall, it looked like the photo above. Then, I switched to floral pictures only (above). When at Good Will, I always go through their packages of fabric remnants.  I recently found two large remnants in a bundle for $2.92.  After I brought the floral furnishings into the family room, I knew I needed to lighten up the panels in the adjoining dining room.  One of the remnants I bought seemed to be what I needed to do this. This fabric was 44" wide x 110" long.  I knew the panels would be narrow, but that's fine since I use sheers in the dining room as well. To make the panels, I folded the fabric in half, across it's width of 44".  I cut straight up the center making 2 panels.  I wanted my panels to be 95" long, so I cut 10" from each panel, leaving 5 inches extra, 2 for the top hem, and 3 for the bottom hem.  The fabric had a selvage side, so I only hemmed one side of each panel. In my previous post , Using What You Have, I shared that we moved a sofa and love seat we had in the basement to the family room. What a change, going from dark brown to jewel tones floral!  I am loving the change.  It allows me to use my blue, green, pink, aqua accessories.  I'm going for the cottage look, and each day I'm remembering items that I have that will work in the room now.   Of course, I made a quick visit to Good Will, and found 3 new home decor books, an English teapot, a bunch of roses for the teapot, and a couple other items.  I arranged the roses into the teapot, and placed it in the adjoining dining room to help everything work together.  I believe the teapot was $2.52, and the flowers were a dollar.  The teapot is marked, Arthur Wood & Son, Staffordshire England, est., 1884, and numbered 6485 M. Similar pots sell on Ebay from $8 - $70. Mine was missing the lid, so it works great like I have it. This table is working well in the dining room.
