Thrifty Finds & Cottage Style

I'm still working to make my living room have more of a cottage style. Before my foot decided to get a fracture, I went to the grand re-opening of my favorite consignment shop.  They moved back to their original location which is much bigger.  Here's what I found and brought in to add to my cottage look.

The plates on the mantel.

They look good on the mantel, and after Valentine's, I will remove the hearts, and the mantel will carry us into Spring.

I also found this small dish which I added to the desk beneath the gallery wall.

Speaking of the gallery wall, I've been changing it up almost every day, hoping to hit on a final look.  I've moved pictures up and down, back and forth, and right now have all floral pictures there.

The last time I showed you the wall, it looked like the photo above.

Then, I switched to floral pictures only (above).

Today, it looks like this.  I need to get a couple things to add which are in the basement, and I don't think I will lug this HUGE boot down 17 steps!!  So that will have to wait!

The picture below was found at Good Will a few weeks ago for $1.91.  It's a canvas, and I believe the flower is made from a foam like flower petal.  Very unique.

The above picture was found at the consignment shop, and the one below came from Kirklands, many years ago. Please excuse the blue cast on the frame. It is bright white.

Another area I changed, is the hall tree.

I love the gallon jug.  It was a freebie at a moving sale, where I bought the chair below that I'm using in the family room.

Still having fun changing the family room. When I'm able to be on my foot, I plan to work on the book cases and bring more of a cottage look to them.

A reminder of the furniture I am now using in the family room (below).

You all know how we are always tweaking our decor, and I continue to do so, trying to get the look I want.  Sharing it all with you.......

Blogging Again From My Mountain Cottage, Shadymont

After a much needed rest, I'm back with a new blog name and a few slight changes, like the template, and the content will vary and not always be home decor, though that is my niche, and I will continue to have it frequently.  But I want to use my blog to also give those who may read it a little encouragement into the Goodness of God. Some of the fog from my depression is lifting now and I'm starting to feel better.  I've had a really hard time, personally, for the last seven months, and the divorce still isn't final.  I think it is nearing being final now though, and I hope I will continue to get clarity from this fog. I have a story to tell regarding other matters, but I still am not able to talk  about it quite yet.  But when I say I've been through the fire, or maybe the pits of hell, just believe me.  I now understand the meaning of Never say "Never"!  Things can happen to us when we are vulernable that we think would never  happen.  ...

Stenciled Burlap Pillow

I just have to share my no sew pillow project.  I had some burlap fabric in my fabric stash, and decided I would use it to cover a pillow.  First, I found an old pillow I no longer use.  I spread the burlap out on the floor and laid my pillow on it so I could cut the fabric big enough to cover it.  I was so intent on the project, I didn't make any pictures of the process. Once the burlap was cut, I folded in the sides about an inch, and glued it down with Tacky Glue, pressing it down several times with my fingers.  I did this all the way around the fabric, and laid it aside to dry over night.  The Tacky Glue dries clear. My next step was to determine how I could lap the fabric over the cushion in an envelope fashion.  I had tried to get my computer to print out a graphic that would show up on the burlap, but printer problems interfered with that plan, so I found the center, and stenciled it with the tree stencil I bought at Michael's. ...

Bar Stools Makeover

I'm still receiving therapy by keeping my hands busy, plus today I ran quite a few errands.  It's been a crying day for me today.  Just so much to worry about.  It seems like sometimes everything is just messed up, and there's nothing we can do to fix any of it.   Night before last, I painted the bar stools.  I've had them since 2000, and they were nice, but I was just in the mood to paint them!!  The form of the stools had a textured bronze color, the seats were beige with the fleur de lis design, and the wood across the back was brown.  Well, needless to say, they got their own coat of chalk paint in white, the seats covered in blue and white, and the boards across the back are blue.  I have the fabric to make matching placemats and napkins, but today was not the day to try to sew, for me.  I'm just too nervous.  In fact, I didn't do anything creative today except switch out the curtains in the powder room that I only made and p...
