Sharing Shadymont, My Mountain Cottage

I was looking for peat pots in the garden center at Lowe's recently and ran up on these rolls of landscaping burlap for $9.98. I think it looks just as good as that bought in a fabric shop. I'm thinking I might make some kind of window treatment for the sun room from it, but so far all I have used it for is as a runner of sorts on the dining room table. I loved the table setting above, but decided to 'lighten' it up. I removed everything from the table. One side of the burlap is fringed.  It looks like this when it is spread out completely.  This would be fine for fringe on a window treatment, I think. But I decided to change it some and just folded the edges under for now.   I think this looks alright, although I might trim or hem the sides at some point. Since it's just the two of us, we have used a table top tree for the past couple of years, and it is so much simpler and easier to take down.  I bought one a couple of years ago at Lowe's.  It is in a black urn, and is only two pieces that you snap together, fluff the branches, and you're ready.  It is also pre-lit.  So simple for us Seniors. It is quickly decorated.  This year I used red, white, silver and gold. The tree is rather slender and easily sits on a table.  I have it sitting on top of a stool which works great for the small tree.   It doesn't take very many ornaments to fill it.  Quite a few of these are from the Dollar Tree, while some are more expensive ornaments.  You can see a bit of the urn in this photo.   We find that this small tree serves our needs just fine, and I don't "dread" taking it down after Christmas is over. I recently showed you this faux plant and frenchy urn sitting in a chair in my dining room. I was looking in a closet where I store a few decorating items, and came across this green pumpkin and the large pedestal I made from a candle stick and a wooden cheese tray from Good Will.  I had already added a gray wooden tray under the urn in this chair.  So I brought these items and added them to the tray as well, and now have a vignette in a chair! I found the pumpkin at Tuesday Morning a few years ago.  The urn, gray tray, and hat box are consignment items. I think these items together make a unique and lush vignette. What do you think? The other day while doing my daily "move things around" :), I happened to sit this urn with the faux greenery in the seat of this consignment chair. When I started to pick it up to move to another area, I thought....hmmmm, I think I like it sitting in this chair.   After all, the urn is white, the chair seat and back are white, and the brown wood on the chair blends well with the drapes in the dining room., So, I just left it there. And, I think it is going to stay here.  I like it that well.  So I just photographed it, edited/enhanced the photos in Picasa, and now I'm sharing them with you! Are you ready for the New Year?  I'm getting excited as I plan to retire from my job on March 31st.  I'll have over 24 years, but will turn 60 in March and want to be home with my hubby who is already retired.  We look forward to being able to go to our home in South Georgia and not have to come back so quickly so I can go to work. I packed away all the decorations the day after Christmas and shopped the house to get a different look.  I am happy with the changes.  See what you think.
