Sharing Shadymont, My Mountain Cottage

Rustic woodland decor was my choice this year for the Christmas mantel.  I found these adorable reindeer at Big Lots, and feel in love with them! Aren't they pretty!!! These shutters that I've used for a long time, got a coat of red paint.  The wreaths hanging on them were consignment finds. I brought out the birch candles from last year. The burlap wreath, I made to use in my fall decor.  I added a string of wooden beads through it for a pop of red.  The sign is one I did the other day from a scrap of baseboard.  I painted it red, free handed "Merry", stenciled "Christmas", then sanded it well for an aged look. (Candle stands, consignment)   I moved the sign to the book case, so here is the mantel without it. The mantel is one of my favorite places to decorate.  I change it up for each season and most holidays, but at a minimum, every couple months. I have recently been loving the color pink, and have added it to my decor.  This is how I decorated the mantel using pink. I decided to make some changes to the mantel, and this is how I did it. First, I removed the pink flowers from the white burlap wreath. Then I removed all the items, leaving only the shutters, which I unfolded to have them stand flat against the mirror/wall.   Then I started adding and removing items. I like to layer the items on the mantel, and using the shutters makes that really easy. You can use old empty frames to help layer also.  In fact, at one point when I was doing the mantel, I had the shutters turned on the blue side, a white empty frame, and other items.  But I took all that off too. I've had a wire wreath frame hanging in the basement craft area for quite some time.  I had bought one roll of white burlap ribbon 2 1/2" wide a while back on clearance in the fabric section at Wal Mart.  I decided I would use the two items to make a burlap wreath.  I've made several burlap wreaths using wider burlap, but I liked the look of the more narrow ribbon, and the ribbon being wired gives the wreath a much more "finished" appearance.  Of course, I had to purchase more ribbon as one roll only covered about 1/3 of the frame.  It took over 3 rolls to complete the wreath, so I'll be using this one alot.  Generally, I have far less money in the wreaths I make. I'll be the first to admit that this first project took absolutely no skill or imagination.  I've noticed that everyone is making banners to use in their fall decor, so I decided to make one.  First I cut a piece of jute twine, didn't even measure because I knew it could be cut   shorter.  I eyeballed and cut a pennant shaped piece from a brown paper grocery bag, then used it to cut three more pieces of the same size.  I then stenciled  F A L L on it in orange paint and stapled the paper to the twine.  Here it is!   Fall Banner Cost $0 Here is a recap of my recent Fall projects. I'm sharing some touches of Autumn that you may not have seen.  ~Enjoy~   This is an artificial leaf from Dollar Tree I believe.  I simply cut a piece of burlap, laid the leaf on it, and placed it in this leather frame. I think this tassel looks like a pumpkin sitting in this flower pot.   Isn't it neat how the lights look in this photo?  This is an area in the mud room. The arrangement above hangs on the wall in the family room. I have noticed a few leaves starting to change color, so that must mean I can dress my home in the rich colors of fall.   I started decorating the dining room on Saturday afternoon, and have already tweaked it because I found a lovely new fall tablecloth.  I'll show you both options.  I am mostly using items I already had.  At first I simply used two placemats from Pier 1 as a runner on the drop cloth table cloth.  I added a fall bouquet, leaf dish, and a wire pumpkin to the box. I used two fabric pumpkins, a gold colored pedestal and some Kirkland's acorns and called it done.
