Christmas Tour Part II

This is part II of the Christmas decor at Shadymont.  First, the guest bed room.  I changed it completely this year, to red.   The fall comforter was switched out to this white one, then I added red items, pillow shams, quilt, and curtains. Kitchen     The island got it's touches of red.  Keeping it simple  Red ornament hung in a green strainer That's it for part II.  Stay tuned for other rooms coming soon, sun room, master, library, master bath, etc. Sharing here: Amaze Me Monday Tuesdays at our home @ Our home away from home Inspire Me Tuesday @  A Stroll Thru Life   The Scoop @ Confessions of a Plate Addic t

Finding a New Spot for the Wing Back Chair

Since we gave away lots of things at the lake house, I've enjoyed working in both of the guest rooms.  I think my favorite is the one on the back side of the house.  But I like the other too.  Anyway, we have had the wingback chair below in the master bedroom for a couple of years. It was originally in the living room. In Living Room There just wasn't a spot in the bedroom where we didn't stub our toes on it during the night if we got up for anything.  So my sweetie helped me move it yesterday to the back guest room. In master bedroom, right in eht pathway to the bathroom. I went through the house looking for a good place  for the chair, and found a perfect spot. By moving the nightstand to the other side of the bed,in this guest room I had the perfect spot.  The sham I found this week at GW landed in this chair. Quilt (Good Will) Rose garland above the mirror. Sham: Good Will This night stand is all we kept fro...

Busy Week and Guest Room Changes

I've been on a cleaning spree this week.  It all started Monday when I pulled everything out of the linen closet and reorganized it.  I took 4 large bags of "stuff" out. I straightened three more closets, put new hardware on the kitchen cabinets, switched the drapes and bedding in the guest room, and hung different artwork.  You've seen this bedding before, but I was tired of the heavy drapes, and the brown, so it was time to bring back the lighter colors.  Different artwork  New paint for lamps  I painted these lamps so they would blend better in here. This is their third incarnation!!   They were originally dark gray metal, then I painted them gold, now they are white.  Different scarf and vignette I told you earlier in the week about moving furniture around. Armoire holds tv, and has empty drawers for clothes storage. I decided to use the white tub in the chair for a welcome 'basket'.  I've placed items in...

How to Update a Room Without Spending

Recently I posted about how I've lightened my décor throughout the house, all except the guest room.  That had to be changed, and I figured out a way to do it without spending a dime. BEFORE: Fine for the Autumn/Winter months, but a little too dark for the Spring and Summer. Here's what I did. First I swapped out the dark brown curtains for these breezy, lacy toppers that I've had for a long time. To lighten the comforter, I simply reversed (flipped over) it to the solid taupe side. The winter side has swede inserts which the back doesn't have, so this works out great for the warmer months. Just pretend you don't see my reflection in my PJ's in the mirror!  :)

Guest Room, English Cottage Style

I'm continuing my series on English Country Cottage Style. Today, we are in the guest room. It's been a while since I showed you my guest room, but it is pretty much the same.  I don't have lots of guests, and don't have the need to change everything in there, though I do plan to do some changes in the fall. Right now it is all dressed for Spring/Summer, in Pastel colors. A few things have changed since these photos were taken, but the bed is still the same, and the curtains.  Most of the artwork remains the same as well. I switched this table to the sun room, because I am able to enjoy it more in there.  I bought this several years ago at an antiques shop for around $40.00, and first painted just the top blue and the bottom white.  Later I painted it all the color of the top.  As usual, you will find flowers and birds in my rooms. I think these colors are very soothing and make a calming pallatte for guests.  What do y...
